Jaxson: What are the options to do a full clean install of W10?

I've been trialling on an old HP laptop and am thinking a cheap SSD and W10 could be ideal for this use.

Windows 10 has not released yet

You will be able to do this on July 29

Is there a price indication on this though?
- Given a clean install is not a direct upgrade.

You do an upgrade install then get the media (how, we are not sure yet) and then do a clean install = FREE

New recovery system. Pretty sure you don't need media to clean install but not tried yet.

The Photo's App seems to be a bit messed up in this build, was working fine in 10166 now it will not display about 1/3's of my library.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

To be pedantic, I think you mean it doesn't matter too much IF they get corrupted because they are backed up :)

Did the upgrade go fairly smoothly for the rest of you? Currently on the third attempt and it finally seems to be working (it's rebooted and is currently sitting at the "Upgrading Windows" screen - the previous two attempts started off OK then the updater window just randomly closed and left me at the desktop).

This is the second update that's popped up an Explorer view pointing at D:\ partway through the update for no obvious reason.

Edit: Forgot to say that I'm upgrading from 10130.

From 10162 to 101240 via WU. It appeared to stick for a time on 5x% and 88%. But.. I was messing around with the network and also had to reboot for other reasons. On those reboots it installed some stuff and it may have jumped from 88 to finished rapidly after one of those restarts.

tldr; it appeared to hang at some percentages but it was probably doing what it needed to do during that time anyway.

It did eventually install. This build seems to be a LOT faster than 10130 so that's a good improvement. There are still some UI inconsistencies (unless I'm not understanding the minutiae), for example Edge has an ellipsis button to access "extras" whereas Calculator has an air vent (not to mention an option called Settings with no settings in it).

Yes, I've noticed different icons for settings all around. Not sure they will get consistency any time soon.

Still irritated that THERE IS a Control Panel with lots of options still there, and there is Settings with lots of options... Annoying because you have to remember where the option you want is actually located.

Has anyone figured out how to "Save target as" in Edge? It doesn't appear in the right-click menu, and holding Shift, Ctrl or Alt doesn't seem to do it.

There is also the joy of some things being not completely in Settings so you start off in Setting but go to do something and then get sent to a Control Panel e.g. 'Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > Change Adapter Options' takes you to the 'Network Connections' Control Panel.

I feel this version (not build but version) is such a mishmash. At least on Windows 7 everything is consistent. Windows 8 is less but Windows 10 pushed the boundaries.

Sure, it's fast and cleaner but the UI is appalling.

I did like how a right click on the windows icon at least presents most key system sections in one place.
Not saying that's ideal, because fundamentally it would be nice to get to all of that lot from one central menu, but at least I stand a better chance of quickly finding settings areas quickly, where I don't refer to them frequently enough to remember them.

Also agree about the networking side of things. That always seems waaay more complex that it needs to be, especially as 90% of the time we're going to the same section anyway.

The appeal of 10 presently seems to be that it's just like 7 but with newer stuff underpinning it.
I personally still feel that there's not the need to have an exact same OS across desktop and mobile platforms, but maybe I'm just old fashioned in that.
I find mobiles are used for media consumption, but where I want to do something serious (and in the office space) I always head back to a desktop or laptop.
Maybe that will change over time, but I still prefer a physical keyboard for example for typing, where locating and pressing a key are two different things, and I don't see touch screen monitors being utilised as much in the office work space either, but maybe new techs will open this up.
End vibe is that 10 is still a mishmash of mobile plus desktop approaches, but it's totally more intuitive to me coming from 7, so I'll easily be recommending it to all.
