Brumfondl: Question for Nathan at a guess: We have three machines here that have reserved our upgrades and one that is my Insider machine and already on build 10240 and set to send and receive builds and updates to my LAN. Does this mean that those three machines will get the upgrade much closer to or even the 29th since the build is in da house already?

The peer-to-peer download won't effect when the reservation upgrade kicks into place. On July 29 though you will be able to download the ISO and in place upgrade those other 3 downlevel Windows machines if you want

Knowing me that is what I'll do :)

Added question then: does this mean a key (or whatever the equivalent is) has already been generated for those machine and so I can do a clean install with said ISO?

We'll be launching a tool that will download Win10 bits and create USBs for you in one-step

The free upgrade can be deployed in two ways:

  • Through Windows Update
The simplest option is to connect each device to Windows Update, and upgrade to Windows 10 through that in-place upgrade experience.

  • Deploy an upgrade image
Upgrade media will be provided as part of the free upgrade offer.  This media can be used on a machine (or multiple machines) to initiate the upgrade process.  During the process, a Windows 10 license will be obtained from the Windows Store for the device, in the same way that a license would be obtained when upgrading through Windows Update.

How will an upgrade from Windows 7 on a HDD to Windows 10, then a clean install to a new SSD work?

Will the activation just work on the new hard drive or will it be a phone call to offline activate?

Sorry if this was covered, but 10240 is RTM, so an ISO of this is as good as what will be officially available in 10 hours?

Hi Nathan, I'd like to fully understand this part. Is there any mechanism that will peer the upgrade locally? Ie; one machine with Win10 upgrade complete peering to an Win7 machine getting the upgrade?.

(I'm aware of the new windows 10 update peering just want to fully understand if a similar mech is running for 10 upgrade as well) Thank you.
