I would hold off on this update for a couple of days - several people have had their user files deleted because of it: betanews article, pcgamer etc. It looks like it is linked with non-onedrive backed up user documents, and as in one case a user had the contents of their non-system D:\Document drive deleted, make sure your backups include all your drives. One reddit thread recommended changing the GPO settings to disabled/not configured for:

Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/User Profiles/Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on system restart

But as the issue has also occurred on Windows 10 Home installs this may not be the correct work-around.

Microsoft Support: Known issues updating to Windows 10, version 1809

We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.

If you have checked for updates and believe you have an issue, please contact us directly at +1-800-MICROSOFT or find a local number in your area https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4051701/global-customer-service-phone-numbers.

This happened to me on an earlier build of windows.  ... all my photos were deleted from onedrive. Restored from crashplan.

The deletion problem reports are unclear. Things I'd like to know:

1. Is there still a problem if not using a Microsoft account?
2. Is there still a problem if not using One Drive?
3. Is the problem associated with files stored in the root of the profile and not in the normal %profile%/Documents /Pictures areas?

Looks pretty random - I looked through a few reddit threads earlier (like this one), and a people mentioned cases when using One Drive and where One Drive had never been set up, as well as seemingly affecting all variants of the profile directory.

I just got done combing through the logs on the user's machine that lost his profile from this. I saw a whole bunch of stuff in the log referring to every document they had on their desktop and downloads folder (among other) by name (e.g. \users\<user>\desktop\some file.xlsx) and how they were moved around between either \$WINDOWS.~BT and/or \windows.old\users\<user>. I couldn't find any issue of a problem with any of that though.

What I did find in the logs on the rollback afterwards, there were mentions of it trying to move all of those files back around and failing because they no longer existed.

Some admins are reporting a gpo policy for profile cleanup (CleanupProfiles) is somehow a contributing factor, and setting that policy to disabled before an update occurs is a solution. There is a corresponding reg key available for Home etc. No confirmation.

Didn't notice any of my stuff getting deleted. I wonder what the common denominator is amongst those who had this issue.

Too many of the MS Windows 10 team working on the April 2019 Spring Update instead of QA on this one?

with no one on any of my Windows PCs I recieved an email from One Drive advising that a large number of files had been deleted. I logged on and checked One drive and found at least 30GB if files in the One drive recycling bin. I have restored these. I am currently rolling back my PCs etc to 1803

Hmm... regarding the issue with the deleted files, was it definitely this update that caused it? I'm having some issues but when I check it looks like I'm still on 1803.

I just started having an issue where after updating itunes it "lost" my itunes library.  It seems to think it should be in my "Documents" folder, but that mostly has a bunch of empty folders in it. I also can't create a new folder in there through the file browser because it says "Could not find this item -> this is no longer located in c:\users\simon"

I had a browse and found my itunes library is actually under This PC -> Music -> Itunes (C:\user\simon\music\itunes) but when I try open that in itunes it says "on a locked disk or you don't have permission"

EDIT: Nevermind, this seems to be unrelated - I thought it might because my "Documents" seems to be mostly empty.  The issue actually seems to be that windows defender keeps blocking itunes from making changes or accessing my files...
