My D-Link ShareCenter NAS still works fine after 1803 updates.

Remember that the Update ditched Home Groups, so maybe check your NAS and ensure network is set to your Work Group?

I have a MyCloud single disk NAS that works fine and maps all shares without problem, but an EX2Ultra only registers as a storage disk and won't allow me any shares to be mapped, when they were easily accessible.

Haven't had that issue with an ex2ultra with 7 computers accessing it. 2 of those have been upgraded, the rest are running the fall update.

The roll-back has fixed all the issues. Nothing else seemed to work.

I'm fed up with getting updates I don't want that break my system, and that I then have to manually roll back. Is there any fool-proof way to stop these blasted automatic updates permanently?

in the windows update section uninstall the last successful update

restart then check windows update and it will just give you the latest update which is cumulative . This means it goes back to the base software and reloads. Works for me. Roll back just goes back to where you were before installing the latest update.

In the latest winaero add on is an option to not load future windows updates or to defer. I have not used it but have not heard any bad comments.

There are advanced options in Pro for slower and ability to defer feature upgrades. Usually I use that and hope that all issues are mitigated by the time it ccmes down, OEMs have resolved any driver issues etc.

I believe they FINALLY disabled SMBv1 in 1803.. see https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/filecab/2016/09/16/stop-using-smb1/

If with 1803 you NAS breaks, that's because your NAS doesn't support SMB V2 or v3. Contact your NAS manufacturer and request they get with the 2010s and support something higher than V1 already.

Yeah it's a bit odd. Was working just fine but then I stopped needing access, and it was only when my backup software started whining I noticed sync had stopped working. Funnily enough the MyCloud works fine, so must be some bizarre block somewhere.

Reliable backup on Win10 really is nothing like MacOS and iOS... perhaps one day...

A bit late...
I had the microcode update patches from Microsoft installed on both computers, 1803 update only removed the spectre microcode update.

However Microsoft have since released another microcode update as a quality update through Windows Update. Installed that and GRC's Inspectre says both computers are protected again.

I've been using 1803 for a while now and it's been running without a hitch, more or less (apart from my boot drive being removed from the BIOS after the update completed).

Started up my PC today and noticed that it now says that my desktop PC is charging which I found funny.

Seems like a pretty harmless bug and I don't think it'll be affect my performance unless I unplug it, which shouldn't happen :P

I finally got around to deploying a base install of 1803 into a VM, in order to see what has changed and in order to decide what needs to be blocked down the line

Just discovered that scheduled tasks no longer run if the PC is sleeping. EPG Collector update is run from Task Scheduler and Kodi recordings using Next PVR fail to wake the PC. If the PC is already awake the tasks run OK. I haven't managed to Google a fix so far.

I tried an install of 1803 64 bit onto a blank SSD. (I only have 4gb ram so not really enough to virtualise). It went very smoothly, I had my internet turned off. Updates went fairly smoothly and quickly. Only two or three reboots and a few scary messages about updates that had failed to install. Before long a message about installing new features. Usual little annoyances such as reminding you how good MS Edge is when installing Firefox. No real complaints at all. Windows 10 is getting better. I was quite impressed that there were driver updates for virtually all my hardware.

I don't have the pro version. I guess I could update, but I don't really need the features and paying Microsoft money just so they will stop breaking my system feels a bit too much like paying protection money for me.

Apart from which the Pro version only lets updates be temporarily deferred, not disabled entirely. Which is now ehat I want, I'm sick of effectively being Microsoft's unpaid beta tester. Removing the ability to disable and defer upgrades was a bit of an arrogant move in their part IMO.

I've had issues with an older Core i7 notebook and 1803.

Realtek PCIE Card Reader "software needs to be uninstalled".

Others reported issues with previous updates, apparently fixed by re-installing then uninstalling the drivers and if that didn't work, then finding the offending driver file and deleting it. That didn't work for me. Update would still stall - saying that the software (which was no longer on the system AFAICT) needed to be uninstalled.

It needed as registry hack:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeCompatibilityTemp

Find the sub-key showing path to the Realtek driver, I double-checked that the driver file wasn't there, deleted entire sub-key from registry, then ran update successfully.

Annoying - but sorted. Posted here because although I could find reference to the registry key and issues with the Realtek driver and 1803, my googling didn't uncover a fix that worked.

Another Windows 10 update. And so, again, I need to re-authorize my Audible account with iTunes. Every time (and then delete my old authorization).

It's always an unreliable process for some reason. But on the third attempt its working.
