DeepBlueSky: I'm coming in late on this thread so sorry if its been asked already. I have three systems for my main PC I've left it on today so bit of luck I'll have the update ready to install, for my daughters and my laptops I'm installing the Windows 10.iso should be quicker I hope. Looking at the posts above is the better bet to upgrade from the ISO ? I didn't have issues with updates OS updates from the insider programme so has something changed.

Each download is around 3Gb per machine, or you will be able to download an ISO shortly, hopefully 4PM

Nathan, Can you comment on the whole setup.exe breaking the install thing?

Cheers Nathan, I saw the USB install process on the MS site may just get an ISO and run the install from a USB stick, my daughters machine is newish does not have a DVD drive. Can you do me a favour and publish the URL when becomes available.

Direct URL's not the best move as they tend to stop load balancing form doing it's job properly.

Just to the page would be fine I'm sure MS will publish a page.

Is this auto-install, or guided and approved by the customer before happening?

I want to download and install in my own time

If I am not prompted to install Windows 10 by the time the ISO is released, I might as well install using that.

The download occurs automatically. I believe it will ask for your approval before any installation.

So, has anyone in NZ been automatically prompted by their PC to say it's downloaded and ready for install, have successfully managed to install, and are now up and running? My read of the situation is not yet?

I can vote no for me, 1x Surface 3 currently 8.1 no prompt but files there. 1x PC currently Win 10 10240 preview but no prompt and cannot find files.

dafman, I'm sure its been tested.  All I know the update process worked in the insider program on my old laptop but that was a fresh Win10 install then upgrades from old to newer versions of Windows 10. I never upgraded from Windows 7.  I had a quick look on the net and seems your not the only one it could be because everyone wants it yesterday and the servers are being stretched, time will tell I guess.

What i did to install it successfully earlier today:

check the sources folder in your windows.bt folder for install.esd
download esd decrypter to convert this into an ISO
mount said ISO from usb, run setup.exe and upgrade that way

but that said, if its going live at 4pm its hardly worth doing that now

Just tried that again. Windows Update started displaying something about 'Checking System Requirements' then said 'successfully installed 1 update' -- which happened to be a Canon Printer software update. Not Windows 10.

I've used this cmd prompt on 4 x Windows 7 PCs since 11am today.
The magic worked each time smile
Sometimes I needed to run the prompt twice.

No unprompted offers from MS to install yet.
