Recently I discovered I was unable to access my Hotmail account.

Its says someone else has been using it so I tried resetting the password, but I no longer have my "trusted PC" (sold it long ago) and I couldn't remember my security question (a question I made too vague and back in the 90s I think).

I filled out the questionnaire as best I could and sent it to Microsoft several times over the last few weeks but got no reply other than a survey asking me to rate the quality of their response. I gave them the most negative (but polite) feedback as possible. No reply to that either.

I rarely use my Hotmail for actual email but it is linked to several services like my iTunes account so it would be nice to be able to recover it.

Any tips appreciated!

Try asking your question in the below forum. For couple of years now, hotmail has had the security feature where besides adding your pc as a 'trusted' one, you can also add a mobile phone number so in instance of a hacked/forgotten password/one off sign in from a internet cafe, you get texted a sms code on that mobile number.

edit - and oh, change all your hotmail linked services like itunes's registered email address to another email address before they get hacked too..

Do whatever you want to do man.

you can also contact me off the forum

go to http://account.live.com/acsr and generate a ticket number (which happens if when you can’t pass validation.)

email me the ticket number and I can escalate this for you

Thanks guys, I posted my question here:

Nathan, I'm not sure how the ticket number gets generated through that form page, it says MS will reply within 24 hours but I don't see anything else... well hopefully I can get it resolved through the MS Answers forum.

Good point Mr Gates, I definitely need to change my linked accounts! Today's mission ;)

I had the exact same, multiple attempts and no win. It allowed me to reset password but nothing else, so I just walked away from the account. I also had the feedback survey and gave constructive but thoroughly negative feedback.

Resolved. Thanks very much to anyone who may have had a hand in that :)

Good news. Go to Account security settings and add your mobile phone number there. Even if it gets hacked next time, they cannot remove your mobile phone number (which you use as a forget your password feature), without entering the confirmation code that your phone will receive.
