Recently my home built computer has been rebooting itself during games such as the new Sim City and Anno 2070. I have replaced my graphics card with a GT 620 as my old card wasn't up to the graphics, but with the old card my PC was still rebooting.  I checked Event Viewer and the following was listed as critical -

Its blue screening. You need to stop automatic reboot on blue screen from advance options. Then check the dump files under c:\windows\dump using a program called who crashed.

Can't find any dump files and don't have a minidump folder or any dump folder. Auto reboot is off already

Hmm so you've changed PSU and video card.. try checking for memory issues with memtest86+:
http://www.memtest.org/

Also are you sure the temps aren't getting too high under load? I'd test this with Prime95 (torture test) to load your CPU 100% at the same time Furmark to load yout GPU 100%, while monitoring temps.

Prime95:

Furmark:
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5462-furmark.html

Try CoreTemp, RealTemp or SpeedFan to monitor CPU temp
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

If that's fine it's probably software or driver related, I'd backup and do a clean install TBH or if you can afford it.... get off that super old hardware and OS.

Sounds like cpu over heating.
Have you checked that the CPU fan is running ok and that you havent knocked it off when fitting the PSU or Video card?

When i was having over heating problems it didnt write to the event log, it just rebooted.

I agree with the overheating also, especially since its only doing it during games - only other thing is maybe DX in Windows 8 is having some issue but would usually expect to see something logged.

Try gaming with one stick of ram. Then try with the other stick of ram (alone) and see if it continues (heck ya might even won't to try them in diff mem slots...ya never know). As some other have suggested trying/running memtest. But I would run memtest...with one stick then the other.

Could be heat related --- Check heat sink and see if it is all full of dust. If not ..perhaps remove and reseat heat-sink.

I think the error is (pretty sure) <Keywords>0x8000000000000002</Keywords>.

This could also help (could be related to what xpd mentions about DX and win8) - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-system/windows-8-error-0x8000000000000002/01a69852-f43b-4c7e-9c3c-a5aa02e30cd6

Memory works out fine. I ran Speedtest and Sim City at the same time. GPU went to 53c and Core to 51c.
I believe these temps to be fine, unless someone begs to differ.

Even did a system restore just in case it was something I downloaded,  but nope, the rebooting still exists and only when playing games.

it could be the graphics driver and something that the game that you are running doesn't like?
Have you tried to downgrade the driver? And what game is it?

The games it is rebooting on are Sim City (new version) and Anno 2070

Haven't tried downgrading the graphics driver.

Might want to consider a fresh format and install of Windows. Another option after the fresh install, would be to try the computer with a different hard drive in it ...with the os/games...etc on it (easiest would be to ghost it over from the drive you are using now). I can't see it being a HD issue...but ya never know.

If it continues after that...I'd be starting to think motherboard. If it does turn out to be the MB----Not sure when you bought the MB, but it seems to come with a 3 yr manufacturers warranty.

Have done the fresh install, have stress tested it with OCCT (no reboots) removed components one by one and tested and still reboots. Also have power settings on high performance.  I'm stumped,  but then it could be the motherboard, but it would be out of warranty now.

You could always try flashing the BIOS with the latest release for the motherboard.

I once  had a motherboard which had the latest BIOS release installed, but this had been done several years back. I reflashed it with the same BIOS version and it performed much better. The BIOS must have become corrupted some how.

Of course, if you stuff up the BIOS flash your motherboard could be ruined, so there is some risk ... but its never happened to me.

Good luck!
