No point trying to avoid 1709 , become one with the Borg .

Older 10 builds/ver will reach end of life & no longer get updates. You need to upgrade to a newer build before
march next year
http://www.thundercloud.net/infoave/new/end-of-life-dates-for-windows-10-versions/

MS has pretty much taken away any real control you have over updates. Any choice you could possibly make over what updates are installed
is very much only temporary. MS are doing everything possible to force updates & new versions onto us.
Even turning off the update service no longer works , MS/10 simply turns it back on later.

My advice: download the latest 10 ISO & burn to DVD. Upgrade to 1709 via that Disk you burnt. Get it over & done with.
This is something we just need to put up with , with 10 . Thats why Im staying on 7 .

1709 is like a bad beta version. In a years time when it becomes compulsory then I will have it. Meantime my laptop on 1607 last received and failed the feature update for 1709 at 1 30am today when I dont have 1709. the question is why?

Google the error code from the Windows update logs which should give you more information about the failure. The most common failure reason I've seen is probably a lack of disk space.

We had issues upgrading to the Fall creator's update on about 3 of our machines. To resolve, we:

- stopped the Windows Update service

- backed up & deleted all items under C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

- re-checked for updates

Why on earth don't you want 3d objects in microsoft paint?   I don't get it.

Unless you being sarcastic... I don't want either. I want to install 3D objects if I have a use for it. I currently don't, so it's bloatware.

Having said that, I am running 1709 and just installed an update yesterday taking it to 1709.16299.98 - this on a three year old HP laptop. Also updated my Windows Surface Pro to 1709, no problems.

prior to creator on my desktop through display settings you could change font and bold settings for menu and toolbars. With 1709 this disappeared to a very small default on all browsers. I have vision problems. To date I have not found a fix via google but see suggestions that microsoft aren't going to fix it. thus I leave my laptop alone with bold toolbars etc. This may be due to using thunderbird email add ons.

Back to the initial problem....why was feature updates for 1709 being downloaded on my 1607 laptop? I won't update to creator until the desktop works ok.

Actually I just rolled my threadripper build back from 1709, to 1703 and now back to 1607..

The reason I have is that gaming FPS and program thread throttling by windows have made streaming almost impossible if you are cpu encoding in CU and FU updates.

Because thats what 10 does.
MS have deemed 10 users pleebs & imbeciles & are removing any possibility of control over updates . Yes sarcasm, but true

Honestly , its MS, they know better. They force in junk & bloat as part of Windows Updates.
there is ZERO reason for Win Pro (ie business 10 version) to be downloading unwanted games etc as part of WinUpdates .
Many People have been complaining about lack of user control over 10 Winupdates since day1 .

On the new PC's & laptops Ive been selling, I now just load up 1709, only because I know its going to install eventually regardless. Better to do it now on
the new machine & make sure it installs without issues, than have it try & download 3Gb & install itself onsite sometime later (& possibly then fail)

This issue is endlessly annoying, I'm very keen to see the release of the fix for this pushed all the way out.

Sure is frustrating Bud,

I am still on 1607, and using Group policy to force updates to be stopped so windows wont try roll itself up.

I tried just pausing them, and then it got its knickers knotted one evening and upgraded me anyway and bricked itself, so i clean installed and group policy stopped updates.

1607 is the most stable and best gaming performance release compared to any other version.

Hasn't support for 1607 almost ended? I know that 1511 is no longer Current Branch and I think that 1607 leaves support in March.
