I have WMP 11 and XP with sp3, too. Look, thanks very much for trying to help. I'll eventually figure it out. The fact that the tabs differ in the properties boxes gives me a clue. I just need to experiment some more.

Firefox loves it, however it gets grumpy if you move about the window or switch channels like a mad man..... as you do!

As for safari, pasting in the URL seems to work fine.....

I used QT side by side with safari and QT was much quicker, smoother and higher quality.

My firefox tells me I dont have the plugin, sends me to port25.microsoft to download it, I run it, repair, or remove and reinstall and it still doesnt work.

edit: just saw what forum - thats vista and firefox 3, not a mac.

Fierce Guppy, I think you'll find TVNZ is using dynamic bandwidth on it's connections.
So if you connection to the streming servers is choked you'll be cut down in speed.

IIRC they (TVNZ) have streaming servers at APE, WIX some SF hosting facility and a few smaller ISPs, they had plans that may have been implemented by now for CHIX as well.

Unfortunately the major telcos do not peer at peering points thogh I "think" Telecom has specifically peered with TVNZ for the olympics and maybe for all video.

So unless Telstra has come to its network senses you'll be connecting to the SF server, no wonder you are getting poor bandwidth!

Fierceguppy, the only thing you can do is hassle your ISP to peer.

In fact this event is probably the best single opportunity to get the ISPs to peer locally.

Watch as much as you can internationally, it will cost your ISP especially if you are uncapped.
And tell them that they can peer at APE, WIX or CHIX or even better all three.

In fact since you are in ChCh you could vist their barbados street HQ for their ~~FHC~~ HFC network and hassle them to pop a connection across to CHIX.

Take them a few hours if they wanted to do it. As I know for a fact that a few buildings both CHiX and Telstra have fibre into, there are bound to be lots more.

And the winner is... not me! TelstraClear will ~not~ peer with tvnz's streaming servers for the Beijing Olympics. However, they are thinking about peering with them near the end of the year. What good is that? Excluding the Olympic games, why would one waste one's precious data capacity on anything TVNZ has to offer?

I've have another 120GBs to use up from tomorrow, and a pauper 381kbps feed with which to view the Olympic games...

I used 6GB on the first day. I have 20GB for a month (shared with my family).

I have to manage somehow, by seriously cutting back streams and using the poorer 300k streams.

It's interesting how TVNZ advise about stream use:

If your broadband plan is without a data cap then choose the "High quality" setting to enjoy superior streaming action throughout the Games.

Broadband in New Zealand is basically restrictive or horribly expensive.

Woohoo Snap internet are now offering uncapped use of the live streams. So it is free for me to watch the stream. Everyone else i suggest calling your ISP and asking them to match what Snap is offering and get them to offer free data for the Olympic stream.

Well at least it is uncapped.

Why is it that a relatively small ISP can offer uncapped access and the large ones "can't"
