SJ is the type of person who never leaves anything at the table for anyone else in a deal, he is widely known for it.

There is plenty of evidence if you search for it and have a read. It's hard to believe that if you have such a knowledge of Apple, you won't have heard of cases over the years.

Ok, no info given. I am aware of activities that CEO's are up to, particulartly in the tech sector. As in plural

I would not go so far as to describe Steve Jobs as a great man( that may still come based on his retirement actions) but no one can sensibly deny that he is an Industry leader and pioneer, he also built then rebuilt a very successful and wealthy company who's products have influenced the industry and touched millions of people.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Good point. For example The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (www.gatesfoundation.org) is a great example of a billionaire giving out to those who need, and working to get other rich people in the same state of mind.

I understand Jobs has his own problems, but what happens next defines his legacy - was he a industry visionary or a enlightened?

I understand Jobs has his own problems, but what happens next defines his legacy - was he a industry visionary or a enlightened?

I don't think what happens next defines him, he is gravely ill and sadly does not have a long time left. I believe his undoubted contribution to the industry defines him. He was an entrepreneur and a visionary with the drive and leadership skills to bring those visions to reality.

People like Steve Jobs only come along rarely but what they do out lives them and influences many. He will be missed and it will be a while before he is replaced but he will be replaced.

I wish him well. He has contributed a lot to the tech industry. I have always enjoyed reading one of his quotations.

All of these top CEO's fight to succeed, some more media worthy than others. Bill Gates is well known to fight hard to win the battle. The tech industry is a hard battle. Unlike other industries, what is cool today is old hat tomorrow, you have to admire all of the for their tenacity.

Bill Gates s a classic example. Many stories of hardcore deals, and actions. And lawsuits. The rapid nature of the industry demands this. Without all of them, imagine where technolgy would be if it was managed by traditional General Managers and Financial Accountants.

My hats off to all of them, if they have played hardball, that is fine with me. The outcome has been innovation that has outpaced every other industry, and has in fact helped many other industries, particularly the fringe-tech industries such as TV. TVs now have browsers, file managers, they have joined the personal computer thanks to the speed of innovation by the Steve Jobs/ Bill Gates if this world.

afaik, he suffered from islet cell carcinoma, not the common adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. it has been 9 years since he was first diagnosed with it.

without steve jobs, Apple will become obsolete over few years...

I don't feel that. Not because I appreciate hios role in the industry. There are many I feel strongly about. Apple is an integrated solution, Windows and Android are open. Clearly there is room for both flavours, and with Apple's riches that shows me they are on a winning formula, from a profit point of view. Naturally, Tim is not Steve, but while he has said he will continue on with Apples customer culture, he will have his own input and flavour.

Agreed. QFT. Unfortunately until SJ passes, Apple will not head in any direction other than in the one that SJ dictates to TC, anyone who believes differently hasn't been watching carefully.

The ideal for any company, is to give the customer what they want. SJ has often said that, so yes he does envisage that. The proof is the company's riches, their profits, and in the smartphone space, the market share they have for one device. If you don't have a mindset to give the customer what they want, you cannot possible achieve what Apple has.

To me, all of the top tech CEO's are cut from the same mould. Talented, creative and visonary. Whether you are talking Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook it doesn't matter.

Well, fair comments, but in my opinion, there is no need for Apple to change its direction. Currently it is highly successful.

You can make small changes, but the business model works for them. They provide integration. Others will call that locked down. I am sure they will continue as they are, continuing to evolve their devices as others will also. But their business model won't change.
