Seriously? I understand making fun of "PC" (as if a Mac wasn't a Personal Computer to start with). But making fun of their customer, painting them as dumb?

Seriously lame...

I saw these the other day. I'm with you, Apple has defiantly lost their touch in terms of their ads. I enjoyed the earlier Mac vs PC ads though in saying that the more recent ones were nowhere near as good.

Apple are setting some very high usability and support expectations with those advertisements.

Apparently many people have reacted to these ads by stating how much they want to punch the Apple guy in them in the face.

Hmmm... May Apple need to produce manuals. It would save them fortune in broadcasting them in ads. hehehe...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Yeah, I don't think that they're too bad either.

Disappointed. By the tone of the thread I was expecting some low, lame, putdown ad against stupid people. Seems ok to me, most people need some help with a new app, the ad just shows that, and that its actually not too hard after all. This ad could also apply to providers of other computers, smartphones, feature rich TV's.

I think the point is that Apple have always purveyed the image that their OS is so intuitive that it doesn't require a manual.

These ads give the opposite impression that you need an Apple Genius on hand to do anything.....

"Unmitigated disaster" is pretty strong. I suspect the portrayal of the guy isn't far off what people would expect from a real "Apple genius" employee, albeit not wearing their uniform off-the-clock.

They're not advertising to people who already own Mac's, they're a captive audience. They need to try new ways to get people from the WinTel platform. Apparently, this is it.

I didn't think they were particularly good ads, but I've seen far worse. The Dell ad where the laptop somehow enables the voiced-over guy to dance for some reason spring to mind. Awful ads. Doesn't stop them selling stacks of the things.

One of the reasons I shelved my marketing degree and avoided the industry was because it was a highly subjective area. The aretifacts you intoduce in an ad can be loved by some and hated by others or even a disaster. Think back to the saatchi2 Abstain campaign during the rugby world cup.

I personally liked these ads, it has the basic elements of introducing the need and how it can be satisfied using a product.

Yes. My take is that the ads are not targeting that people are dumb and need help. It's targeting the many users who can turn a PC on and do basic web and email, but with a Mac it is actually not hard to do some basic, productive, and useful tasks

The ads would be equally at home with Windows 8, Windows Surface, iPhone, Samsung S3, or a Smart TV
