Hi,

Needing to install skype for business app on my macbook pro 2014 HOWEVER, I only have OSX 10.10.5 and the latest version only supports 10.11.

(I was unable to upgrade from 10.10.5 as didnt have the free drive space at the time (and still dont)).

Anyone know where I can get a suitable copy or workaround to allow me to participate in a meeting I need to attend?

Get an external HDD and put stuff on it so you can upgrade to Catalina (or at least Mojave if you need some 32bit apps still). Your macOS is so old that most things are not compatible with it now.

Ive got time machine backups...I guess I need to let go of being able to retrieve stuff in the moment vs recovering.

HOWEVER... I cant sort this out this week, have a job interview (so needing Skype for Business client).

This macbook im on has only ever been a family hack...usually i'm in possession of company devices.

@wellygary:

Skype web?

https://www.skype.com/en/features/skype-web/

I feel thats the normal skype. I have the normal app installed and working well.

Skype for business on the other hand will let me click through on a meeting invite so I can join someones meeting hosted within their enterprise.

Option 2.  is get a fast USB stick or external SSD and install 10.11 or later on that,  then boot from it...  install Skype on that drive...

Hmm, seems a bit too much work...will think about it.

At the moment I have 6Gig free space... catalina wants 4.5 but the app store still wont let me download.

QUESTION: is there a skype for business client for IOS?  (remember I cant use actual skype for business without an enterprise account), I just need to be able to join a meeting !

You do not need a Skype for Business client locally installed if you do not want it. The invite link they would have sent you, when you click on it should open your web browser and give your notifications about joining Skype for Business meeting via web. Ofcourse you should test this before hand to make sure that being a OSX platform specially older version that your webcam and mic work ok. Best of luck with your interview.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Hey, I thought so too...but yesterday when I had my initial interview, the link took me to a page;

Then nothing happened, however the meeting host may have decided to exit the meeting before calling my mobile (initially the link from my calendar took me to my own skype app and it seemed I was the only person in the call / assumed someone was going to join).

Anyone able to test this with me... i.e. send me a quick invite from within their enterprise ?

(sounds dodge, but im legit). Honest  !  :-)

EDIT: no idea why the link isnt working. Maybe because grabber is .TIFF?

You can do a free test at link below. Use link in option B "You don't have a Skype Business Client'

Try installing the Office 2011 https://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/MacOffice2011/en-us/MicrosoftOffice2011.dmg

or the Office 2016 suite for MAC (can upload the .pkg file for you if you cannot find the download).

They should have the SfB client.

My real issue is im still on OSX 10.10.5

I can get the meeting invite to work on my iphone.... so likely will need to succumb to using that.

Right, time to see if I can make space for catalina... assuming catalina can work on my mid 2014 MB Pro 13inch

You will need 18.5GB of free space to install Catalina, as per https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT201475. If you have space issues and lots of Photos in iPhotos/Photos app then moving the library to an external is the easiest way to gain space, as per https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT201517.

Skype for business wasn't released on the Mac until late 2016 (with I don't believe ever supported your old version of macos) What you need is Lync for Mac 2011. More specifically the web plugin as the full client requires a licence which I presume you do not have.

Edit: Have PM'd you
