There's been word of a fairly nasty Chorus fibre cut around Browns Bay / Forrest Hill area on Auckland's North Shore... has anyone seen it? Got pix?

Castor Bay is also out due to this... i rang them today but they said no ETA on a fix, then tried to sell me an upgraded package :D

I dont believe they have no idea when it will fixed so the handling of the repair has been botched from a customer service point of view.

Who are "they"?

I doubt Chorus would have tried to sell you an updated anything.

I wonder where the cut is. Must be between the exchange and the backhaul network. I know they're doing a bunch of work on East Coast Rd near Mairangi Bay with the UFB rollout. I could always go for a drive and find out.

Fibre was cut yes, Around 10AM.
Affecting Browns bay and Forrest Hill exchanges. All cabinets off each exchanges are down. Didnt not see any notification for the exchange building itself.

Phones didn't appear to be down as we were ringing customers around those areas today notifying them of an outage :)

I bet it was one of the UFB rollout team. They're a bit loose with the digger (they cut the cable to our street a month or so ago)

I guess the cabinets are fed with fibre and copper? Either that or the exchange has redundant voice paths, but not for internet.

It's on East Coast Rd between Constellation Drive and Hastings Rd in Mairangi Bay. Pretty major, they have 4 teams working on it, rolling new fibre feed and joining strands.

I didn't go and talk to them as they looked pretty busy, but it's where they were installing UFB ducting, so I'm guessing someone dug through it. I wouldn't be surprised if someone lost their job over it.

That is often caused by cables not being where the map says they should be - I am sure that Chorus are not incompetent.

As for Chorus' sub-subcontractors swinging diggers and horizontal drilling...

Yup, should have been more specific. The UFB rollout team, especially the ducting work is sub contracted out and then sub contracted out again, so it's not "Chorus" per se

Interesting how the cut is causing issues for some users up here in Whangaparaoa on Slingshot but not others.
