I know that it hasn't hit NZ yet, but it will by Saturday.

What area are you in and are you taking any precautions before it hits?

I'm in the Manawatu.

So far, I've been around the house and packed away any loose objects, cleared leaves and grass off a few sump grilles and cleared rubbish off the council storm water drain outside on the road from us.

Perhaps some Geekzoners from Auckland/Northland can let us know when it hits and how bad it is? Cheers.

We are north of Auckland and in the middle of building a house lol - have taken measures to make sure it doesn't get blown over - cleaned out the gutters/drains etc....

Expect rain about 9pm tonight and for it to get pretty heavy around 3am.

Confession.... I like weather like this...

Check guttering and any dry brittle limbs on trees the summer can make these vulnerable in high winds or heavy rain.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

To tell you the truth, I'm looking forward to the rain. Our lawn is way more brown than green so that at least will be good for the plant life.

Yeah actually we have a lot of trees and expect quite a few branches to come down if the wind gets high enough.

On the Whangaparaoa Peninsula on side of a hill.... we always get flooded with a decent downpour, so expecting this to happen.... thing is, we're away and the house sitters will have to be told what to do etc.... fingers crossed the new drainage the council put in works, but I have my doubts....

Otherwise, took down shade cloth, shifted everything to one corner of the deck under cover and cleaned drains out. Not much else we can do.

Im hoping it bypasses us, I dont want to get home to a flood again.

I too have to admit i love weather like what is predicted! guess it is the rush with getting prepared.

I am in Hamilton. This morning there was a nice red sky as the sun rose. It was sunny out (with high cloud) earlier but it appears to have darkened a bit in the last 30 mins. Still high cloud.

I will be pinning the tramp to the ground when i get home, dont want that flying away. other than that we are pretty set.

This shows the predicted/acutal path at the moment

Tramps are shockers in this weather! Have heard stories of them ending up in odd places!

"Earth" is menu. Updates every 3 hrs

I note the prediction ( if you go forward a day) is for this to slide off to the west a bit , although it's not much. The wind speeds don't look too bad, but the water is significant, 55kg/square meter !

Lets hope not too many power cuts. If the internet went down with this many people stuck inside we'd all have to play cards and talk :)

Not expecting Wellington to be too much different than usual. Bit or rain, bit of wind. Bought beer supplies, however I don't think the weather influenced this.
