TV1 or TV3 news which do you prefer , Myself I watch TV1 news as that is what I was bought up watching (Shut up boy the news is on) and is what I align with really.

Do I prefer TV1 news because of my age, I don't know I just don't really like the TV3 format.

What do you prefer or do you catch the early 5.30 news, perhaps you don't watch it at all or just browse it on your tablet.

Was an early TV3 news watcher (even Nightline with the Orange Roughy). It was just hungrier and more comprehensive.

But in the last 6 months have switched to TVOne. 3News just seemed to go more and more tabloid. At least it had entertainment news. And it had business news - now gone I understand. Cant even get exchange rates on the news anymore.

Am I happier? Nah, its just the best of a bad bunch.

I watch neither.

Pretty much Al Jazeera or the BBC on the limited occasions I watch news on the telly now, and online for the rest. And I wouldn't have seen TV1 or TV3 news more than 2-3 times in the last six months.

They aren't really news programs now.

Of the 60 minutes they run for, these seems to be:

17 minutes of advertising breaks
5-6 minutes of weather
5 minutes of carefully scripted ad libs between gushing presenters
a 5 minute bit of "human interest" drivel
2 minutes promoting themselves
1 minute of credits
10 minutes of sports results
a 3 minute fluffy patsy story that isn't news at all, about tourist's views on the quality of toilet paper in campgrounds or some such

Which leaves about 12 minutes of anything close to actual news, most of which is out of date and dumbed down to a primary school level

dont watch either , i like getting my news from the internet, print mainly. up to date and you can find real news .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

That is a good breakdown - My impression is more like 5% of actual news 95% of Sports news and adverts. Not everyone is interested in sports every day, so I give it a pass. There are enough news streams online that makes the 6pm and night time slot redundant

I dont watch either. Its just stuff you have already heard about being read to you and then really bad blurry clips from overseas networks that have already been well shared on facebook and twitter if they actually matter.

TV3. I totally lost patience with the endless live feeds to nowhere on one news. Generally it's something to have on during dinner after we've put the kids to bed.

Neither, they're usually both hours old by the time it airs, and if it's something I'm interested in / care about I'll have found out already, so no point watching just for the garbage I don't need to hear :)

TV1 News and TV3 News both have the same problem - they are both light entertainment "shows" containing very little news, racing each other downhill.

Like JimmyH, I avoid both.

When there isn't a huge difference between that Jono and Ben, and the 6pm TV news bulltins, you know there is a problem in NZ with it's quality of news. The news bulletins are now full of the presenters trying to make each other laugh, and full of fluff pieces, bits of youtube, and so called celebrity news and film trailers etc. No wonder people don't really know much about what the government is doing, and what is going on in the world. I watch the BBC news if I want to know what is happening in the world. Sometimes these piece make it to NZ on NZ news, although often a week or two later.

Without being rude, we watch Prime news at 5:30
It's half an hour, which is what the original 6pm news was on TV1 back in the day.
They don't muck around with 'Today's Good Sort' etc on there.

TV1 was originally half and hour, followed by Holmes, and then they rolled that into a full hour and then they put something newsy on at 7pm also.
Still bugger all happens day to day in NZ, but they don't include additional international news to pad it out, so it's just awfully wishy washy.

I prefer TV3 over TV1.
TV1 has that pretentious lot saying Fong ahh nui and O oma roo etc, which is just disrespectful to people from those districts.

We used to watch One because that was what had been on 7 (minus ads) at eight. Eventually I became so fed up with One's timid political correctness (and yes, those live feeds to nowhere) that I decided to try Three. That was marginally less unintelligent and microscopically edgier and it was followed by Campbell live so we stayed there until the latest "improvements". Three News (and that wretched Story) are now so dumbed down and insipid that I have given up altogether. My current news source is mainly ABC because they are at least in our part of the world, with Radio NZ to fill in anything of local importance.

Frankly, neither. I haven't watched TV news in ages and if I do, it is BBC World.

TV1 and 3 both look more like media students doing a project in "Newscasting" at university than mature TV news programs. It may be the complete lack of actual news and thus the need to fill and pad with cats up trees etc that causes this effect, of course.

Hardly ever watch but I prefer Prime News by a mile.

I find both tv1 and tv3 unwatchable. The 80's style power dressing, the high level of pointless animations.
