Please don't include Spoilers beyond the end of the currently publically viewed Episode!!!!

So, that was some ending to Ep3 Season 8! I wasn't expecting it and whilst I had always wondered what her purpose in the series was Arya turned out to be quite a significant player!

I had actually expected the 3 Eyed Raven to end the Ice King actually. When Daeynerys used the Dragon on the Ice King I thought that was going to be the end, but the continued coverage of it made it clear it wouldn't be.

I was disappointed by the actual battle. Perhaps it was the Sky feed but everything seem dark, cramped and almost pixelated. It was pretty hard to see a lot of it.

I wondered if Tyrion was going to end Sansa and himself in an act of mercy.

I was more or less expecting most of the deaths, but Jorah was the one that I was most disappointed by. I felt his dedication to the Queen should have warranted just a few words from her at the end. Isn't really the GOT way to give dying people last words though is it?

What was the deal with Melisandre? She just walked and died? The amulet was keeping her alive, but why did she remove it?

Was nice to see poor Theon get a chance at redemption. I had expected he might turn out to be a coward in the end too.

I thought it was a good show, the time flew by.

I, too, expected Bran to pull out a dagger and stab the Night King.

The dragons turned out to be fairly useless IMO. Did Jon's one survive? At least one has.

Perhaps it was the Sky feed but everything seem dark, cramped and almost pixelated. It was pretty hard to see a lot of it.

I was somewhat cynically thinking that keeping it dark and unclear would have saved a truckload of cost / CGI.

It was a long episode. We had visitors who are not GOT fans, and they didn't leave until 10:30 last night. I feel very antisocial, was hoping they'd have left earlier. That's bad IMO, I must be addicted much worse than I thought

I actually quite like this about the show - people usually just die without the extra breaths needed to get out some final pithy line or revelation. It is a well overused trope!

I also liked that the Valerian steel dagger has been around since season 1 - finding its way from mystery assassin to LittleFinger, to Bran and then finally to Arya last season.

re: darkness; it was a little dark and confusing in parts, but it worked well IMHO and the *ahem* 1080p copy that I had didn't suffer from any additional pixelation or muddiness that folks watching on Sky and Neon have reported.

Overall I liked it much better than I liked Endgame - the tension is real in GOT as you really believe that anyone could meet a grisly end at any time - and there is still plenty to come.

I have watch GOT on my spare screen, in my office, whilst doing something else for 7 full seasons, and I am now regretting it, as I have enjoyed S8 much more giving it full attention, on 100+ inch screen with surround sound.

I feel there are just some shows you can't "get" unless you watch them attentively.

Thankfully, the visitors we had last week were GOT fans and thrilled to be watching it on a big screen.

Melisandre had foretold that she would come back to Westeros once more to die. Once the Night King was defeated then her job was over and she could rest.

BTW it was the Night King who died, not the Ice King 😀

I have no idea how anyone could watch GOT without giving it a reasonable amount of attention. There's usually too many plots happening at once otherwise.

Watching it on a 100 inch screen sounds more fun than watching it at 4am cause I couldn't sleep with jet lag.

That explains Melisandres role thanks. She was the one who burned Davos daughter alive ? That was one of the most disturbing scenes I've ever seen.

You mean Stannis daughter right? She also had the demon "baby" that killed Renly. Definitely an end justifies the means type of girl.

It sounds like the darkness of the lighting was a common complaint, not just with Sky's feed. We struggled with Neon and geounblocking problems, so resorted to a less than legitimate source (much to my frustration, having paid for a legitimate source).

I found the outcome to be a little disappointing. Despite the badassery shown by Arya (and Lyanna Mormont, taking out the giant with a dragonglass dagger in the eye), I felt that the outcome betrayed much of what the show seems to be about - the triviality of the conventional power struggles for the Iron Throne, versus the existential struggle against the Walkers, being an allegory for climate change. Set against this, I fully expected the ultimate outcome to be the Walkers defeating the living, and the battle for the throne to be the ultimate red herring. But with Arya defeating the Night King, I read it as suggesting that we will triumph against the climate change monster (when I suspect GRRM doesn't share that optimism). It also means the next three episodes will undoubtedly focus on that pointless, petty power struggles, which to me completely undermines everything the show seemed to be building towards.

As I watched the battle unfold, I was taken aback by stupidity of the Dothraki charge (though it was well shot, showing their flaming "swords" slowly extinguish. But later tactics seemed equally unfathomable - once they lit the trenches on fire, why didn't Jon and Dany just line up their dragons and incinerate the walkers while they were standing there? I also expected there to be a bigger twist at the end than Arya just leaping on the Night King and sticking him with a Valyrian steel dagger - I conjured up all kinds of possibilities, such as Bran killing the Night King, or even the Night King bending the knee to Bran, revealing him to be the true "villain" (though each of these is just as unfaithful to the central allegory of the show - it just would have been a bigger twist, and could have let the bigger story play out).

Overall, I felt a little disappointed. As battles go, despite the grand scale, it didn't really have quite the same power as the Battle of the Bastards back in season 6. Also, with so many major players surviving, it feels like the stakes were never really that high (despite the whole dead vs living thing).

I was kind of surprised how tough the dead seemed to be, climbing over each other, to basically disentegrate at the first stroke of any sword, fist or whatever.

Agree on the trenches comment.

The scale of the dead was pretty amazing, there seemed to be an never ending wave of them.

That was the "dragonglass" (and Valerian Steel) though. If you chop them up with a normal weapon, they keep coming until they are dismembered and even then they still seem to endure.

The DragonGlass has the same sort of effect on the dead as it has on the White Walkers and large numbers of the weapons used were made of this. They even had Dragon glass points on some of the barricades - hence the disintegration and perma-death

The ending of this episode slightly annoyed me because it confirms how accurate some of the fan speculation can be. Lots of people were speculating the night king would be dead by the end of this episode I was hoping it actually wouldn't be the case just to throw a wrench into everyone's theories. Its like the west world theories and what not kinda ruins any suspense.
