Hacks airlines don't want you to know - NZHERALD

I'm sick of the word "hacks" being thrown around so stupidly these days.

@Behodar: A headline in an American newspaper:
"Homicide victims rarely talk to police"

Well, if we're doing some overseas ones...  I used to have some good ones that I put up occasionally for light relief during a business writing course I ran. Some of them were:

  • Missippi's literacy program shows improvement
  • Federal agents raid gun shop, find weapons
  • Statistics show teen pregnancy drops off after age 25
  • City unsure why the sewer smells
  • Bugs flying around with wings are flying bugs

...and the classic:

  • [Princess] Diana was still alive hours before she died.

WOW! I didn't know pilots like to wing it when it comes to safety.

The woman needs to get back on her meds. I'm sure the reason they went to Dunedin was because otherwise they wouldn't have had 45mins+ reserve when they got back to Chch. But she was too wrapped up in her self-induced drama to understand that when it was explained to her.

Yep, idiots everywhere.

stuff:

An Ivy League professor said his flight was delayed because a fellow passenger thought the maths equations he was writing might be a sign he was a terrorist.

...

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

It won't work - you'd end up exterminating the bottom rungs until there's only one person left - then have no choice but to exterminate yourself because of what you'd done.

It's been said before but a good start would just be to leave off stupid warning labels ("caution: HOT" on a curling iron for example, or "Caution: may contain nuts" on a packet of peanuts) and just let natural selection slowly influence things :-)

Cheers - N

Aww. Mac and Cheese was really cute, zipping around in his little wheelchair made out of old toy parts. You're missing out!

So this woman was "fearful her plane would run out of fuel" when told there was going to be a refuelling stop and also worried the plane would not be "warm enough to take flight" because the engines were not running when she got on board. Would she have been happier if the engines were idling when she got on... using more fuel? I hope there were enough little packets of biscuits - they might have all starved to death.

I just hope this woman doesn't watch Air Crash Investigation - if she knew about everything that has ever gone wrong on a commercial flight she'd be in such a panic she'd have to walk to Christchurch.

She must have a background in avionics, aircraft refuling, logistics or at the very least perhaps an education in jet engine mechanics to be making those claims, surely.

while the article is solid, the link from the main page is titled

'Why you'll feel ashamed to be a kiwi'

I detest presumptive article titles, 'you'll be shocked....', 'you wont beleive....', 'this is the thing you've always wanted'......

Please do not assume I agree with what you're saying before I've even looked at what you have typed. Why someone should feel ashamed because of what other people are doing is a bit above my head...let alone why collectively grouping people by association unrelated to the act is even a thing.

Also, I don't actually know who polly gillespie is, but her face is on the herald nearly everyday and from the article titles I can only assume she has had just about everything possibly bad happen to her at some point in her life....that may be so...but if your neck isn't broken why is your head like that? ....this is a total petty stupid rant of mine but 'the angles' still belongs on myspace only.

Yes, I find that annoying too.

It's a complex question that has many facets - quite a few of which are not going to sit well with people because they will fly in the face of the whole "no class is excellent, do what you want, behave as you wish when you wish" modern idiom as well as possibly making it hard to keep race, ethnicity or whatever out of the argument.

I'm ashamed that we have such stupid journalists in the media nowadays. I do realise this isn't limited to NZ. Visit a whole bunch of so-called news sites and you get gossipy click bait headlines the like of which Stuff and Herald choose to wallow in.
