Fred99? What ever you do to stay in business! It's too exhausting for me to keep up with all this anonymity. I only exist under one flag or not at all. Soso banished for a week. I find it hard to imagine, but cockiness grips everyone once in a while. 😊

Check on your friends and colleagues. One of my friends killed himself last week after a long battle with depression. We talked on a semi random basis but will never be able to do so again. I can't talk to him about the Warriors win, give him shit about his hair cut or smile when he talks about his wife and kids. You will be missed bro. F#*# depression!

Why doesn't this surprise me?

Honestly, initially, I was very grossed out. The 'upside' of this, is that these creepy aholes don't need their 'needs' met by exploiting ACTUAL children.

That article is awful, linking barely related concepts (AI, gender-based violence and a soccer player's unconsented kiss). It's about perverts making fake nudes, something that is hardly new to the Internet.

As it is, such computer generated images would be considered objectionable here. I agree, it shouldn't be allowed to make fake nudes of specific individuals, but I'd prefer people had some sort of 'release' that didn't involve actual abuse (regardless of age, sentience, species... whatever rocks your boat).

Feel very sad for you. It’s an awful thing to deal with and naturally everyone feels guilty and wondering if they could have somehow stopped it happening. I know someone I viewed as always happy that ended it. It’s not immediately obvious. Such a waste.

We need reminding that happiness exists in life's simplest pleasures.

I don't know enough to have an informed opinion on this. I think the 'reasoning' is probably that (fake) images are a gateway drug and those who indulge will want to move on to the real thing. I think other alternatives, like pornographic Manga, already exist. I don't know if they make things better or worse. I do know they encourage consumers to view the subjects as things rather than people.

My point in posting this was not to call attention to the misuse of AI for porn, but to the unfortunate human tendency to pervert yet another resource that could be used for enormous good for education, information, and the enlightenment of curious minds. Sort of the way social media has been perverted to push conspiracy theories and fascist ideas.

Creeps will always find a way to be creepy, society needs to collectively play whack-a-mole with them preferably with a 5kg sledge hammer.

I am totally gutted for him. He is such a nice and genuine guy, with absolute love and appreciation of his family. It's so tough for them to have to go through this.

https://www.1news.co.nz/2022/03/16/excessive-bail-checks-on-man-before-he-was-fatally-shot-by-police/

I heard about this when I was listening to a discussion on the recent extremely damning Bail review report.

How does anyone justify 70 checks in 38 days on a low risk offender. It would push anyone to the limits. (no this isn't a political post, it's just a post about how sad this situation is).

From talking to a friend whose son got in a spot of bother as a youth some years ago, Police bail checks quickly crossed the line to harassment.

'Checks' were performed in the middle of the night, multiple times in the same night, again and again, creating massive disruption to the household.

The problem for the Police is that for every 95 bailees that play the game , there's another couple who are out at it again.

If only someone invented an electronic device so you could be sure of someone's whereabouts.

I was quite shocked a few years ago when I wandered in to an average suburban DVD rental store in Glenfield and saw some of the presumably non-R18 stuff in the for-sale bins. It was not the pornographic variety I assume but the covers looked exactly like what one might expect to contain child porn - school age girls in uniform with extreme short skirts with exposed underwear, poses, etc.

Since then I've learned a little more about that genre it seems to have young fans also, and the storylines are often random events at school type things and usually no sexual content. I'm aware the genres are becoming popular in the wider region too. I still don't know much and I haven't gone out of my way to find out.

There's no way I want to be down on Japan because it's something I know little about. But coincidentally - Japan does have very odd consent law and odd consent jurisprudence compared to NZ. There are probably states in USA where you could point to similar things, and of course NZ used to have bad law and practice not too long ago and we still need to do better.
