Dingbatt:

Collect a trolley from the car park and take it down with you. The staff aren't putting them in the foyer anymore.

I went on Tuesday and there were no trolleys at the main entrance. About 6 other customers waiting for trolleys too. A staff member said the next batch of trolleys will be down in about 20 mins. I along with 2 others jumped into the lift and went back up into the carpark where we grabbed about 4 trolleys each and took them down. By the time we got down there was probably about 20 people waiting for trolleys.

When we left the store about 2 hours later there was an abundance of trolleys at the entrance, so staff are bringing them down but looks like not regularly enough.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

Jonathon18, thanks for the Single Page tip. I hadn't noticed it before. Cheers.

Thinking about going out today...has the buzz died down a bit yet? Are the waiting lines/crowds still massive?

Drove past yesterday to get fuel at about 0945. No traffic queue and no outside queue. We were getting fuel. Still the cheapest in the area. A friend was doing their fortnightly shop just before lunch and said it was busy, but not manic.

Today being Saturday, I’m assuming it will be extra busy again.

They are going to need to do something about the motorway off-ramp though. Costco traffic in the straight ahead lane is blocking traffic turning left for Westgate and right for Hobsonville Road.

The government won't do anything about it, and Costco is under no obligation to, having paid whatever they paid in developer contributions.

The North Brisbane Costco has made a mess of the surrounding streets for years.

Northwest management or the council can eliminate the light controlled countdown exit halfway down that street to move things along without too much trouble. The next intersection is harder, could be helped.

Closing Fred Taylor Drive is the biggest problem at the moment.

Its not helped by the inexplicable merge part way down it and numpties slowing down and doing a turn to park on the other side too. What was a little side street is now a main thoroughfare to Costco and needs adjusting.

It's also going to be the main thoroughfare for the new NW bus station, if you can believe it, which will be behind the Harvey Norman/Big Box retailers and nowhere near the actual mall. You kind of hope this might have been with potential Light Rail in mind but I'm unsure we'll be so lucky.

So there's that to look forward to.

Useful info for new visitors. The food service ordering closes one hour before the store. Ordering is touch terminal. Personally I have not tried it. Every time I've been it's choked with people. They look happy anyway.

The carpark is horrible in many ways. To start. Exit direction is not clearly marked. One result some people drive the wrong way, etc etc. Plus those usual random people waiting for the best possible park causing queues can cause more issues than usual. Now I usually park close by with no issues and walk in the front door all in less than five min.
Future visits I will avoid the main road off the motorway and go on to the Paknsave turnoff too.

Costco ran out of at least one thing I had an eye on. A few other things I noticed were gone in a week. I'll need to up my visit count and make quicker buying decisions. Oops they got me already. The staff continue to be absolutely excellent.

Monday after work was great. Top floor carpark probably at 1/4 capacity. I decided to get food on the way out and it was about 15-20 mins from ordering to getting my number called. 1 slice of pizza, a hot dog and a soda, and a mango drink thing. One of the onion dispensers was out. Put the food in the trolley and ate in the car because the tables were all full and many of the people had no food. Will be back on Thursday to take someone else from work there. Being pay day for many I expect it to be a lot worse so it may be the last non monday or tuesday run for a while till it calms down.

Went today with a friend. My low expectations were more than met. I looked at a few things that I might get and knew the price of: Printer paper was more expensive than the Warehouse, compost bags and some other garden stuff was more expensive than Bunnings, electric toothbrushes were vastly more expensive than Amazon AU, clothes were more expensive than Kmart (although they did have known labels like Adidas on them), kat and doge fud bags were scaled in volume by 200% and price by 300%, there was absolutely nothing there that was worth getting.

If you want the Costco experience no matter where you are in NZ, drive halfway across town to a town centre, go to the transport hub there and join several bus/train queues (you'll have to use several because they move faster than the Costco one), then go to your nearest Bunnings or Warehouse or Pak'n'Save and fill your trolley and give an extra 10% to the charity bin to simulate the price difference. I'm not sure how you'll replicate Costco's repeated "papers, please" experience, you'll have to be creative on that one.

Agree many aspects of that are true. It's not close to a best price environment where they compete or intend to compete on every item. Some deals are exceptional and you can always come out with hot food of some description.

Had a weekend getaway to Auckland to visit friends.

Visited Costsco, not for me in that state.

Tried their food for the price it's good value but for the whole experience it was not.

The only good part is they were selling a lot of items not available elsewhere.

Spent $4++ for some shopping but refunded my membership fee afterwards.

I will probably join again if they will have a store here in BOP. Until then Pak n Save, Reduce to Clear, Uncle bills & Gilmours will do for me.

@Divhon88 - on what basis does Costco refund the membership fee? Does it essentially provide an initial trial period to confirm it's worthwhile, and if you don't spend over $x within y period they'll refund you?
