surfisup1000:
I wonder if you supported the use of force against the parliament protestors?
I fully support the use of any police force necessary against these eco terrorists. And, long terms of imprisonment too.
Before they started burning stuff? No - I think the police should've just towed their cars away and then we left them to it.

Had a quick flick through this thread and didn't see this posted already. For your viewing pleasure...

The inconveniencing people thing is the whole point. They are alienating a large number of people, but at the same time also drawing more attention to the issue - just look at the length of this thread in the short time it's been in existence. The more oxygen this topic receives, the more discussion they cause and the more awareness they raise, and inevitably, the needle will swing in their direction.
They're obviously very passionate about their cause, as they should be, and they obviously feel that the climate is a "can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs" sort of situation.
The problem is you cross a line to becoming a punisher about this extremely quickly. And at what point does it end?
You can justify anything up to and including some acts of terror if you really want to set your mind to it. You have to draw a line somewhere.
We already know what their message is. The fact it isn't resonating doesn't give them some sort of moral high-ground to go on being jerks.
These protests in Aotearoa are about restoring rail and not the Just Stop Oil protest that are occurring in other regions although the irony of that video is not lost on me.

Well, once again, you can say that but no successful massive social change has ever been accomplished without a bunch of people being jerks. Change on that scale just doesn't happen until there are hundreds of thousands of people on the streets.

We need to focus on the message and not the method. The issue is real and it is urgent. There are too many vested interests with good Beehive access that want the status quo and bugger the consequences.

Yep Europe would still be still stuck in the 17-18 hundreds if not for some "jerks"

This was an extremely disruptive protest to many of those who studied and worked in central Wellington.
How long would you have 'left them to it'?
We are drifting off topic

I think they would've gotten bored and left a lot more quickly without their vehicles to act as a home base.

What they're asking for is impractical. I'm guessing if you've got time to use trains instead of planes for journeys then you're the kind of person who can take a morning off to glue yourself to things.
surfisup1000:
I see one of the eco terrorist crims in the Wellington road blockage has been jailed until at least September 11th. Hopefully she shares her cell with some violent offenders.
Would be great to see our local police taking the same action as the US police. They'd have significant public support for that.
Oh come on, I don't agree with their methods either but encouraging violence against them is not cool and I'd suggest is against the GZ rules. Best to reel it in a little there.

We have to change or we will have few choices and our mokopuna will have no choices. You seem to be thinking in terms or the current rolling stock and locomotives in Aotearoa. My wife travelled many times on the fast trains in China and my son and daughter in law are travelling all over Europe and Scandinavia by train.

It might be against GZ's rules but it's an accurate reflection of the views of a significant number of Wellingtonians if my social media feeds are anything to go by. They are really not making friends with Joe Bloggs commuter.
