This is just being posted as a PSA:

https://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/planned-protest-28-august

I don't want this to turn into a political discussion or argument - this is not been posted in the right forum for that!

If their activity is unlawful then shouldn’t social media companies be obligated to censor take the posts inciting it down?

The second paragraph in the Police media release sums up my feelings perfectly. The right to peacefully protest does not trump (note it has a lower case “t” 😁) the right of people to lawfully go about their business.

rscole86: @lias, it's been done before, it's illegal and doesn't end well for all involved.

Personally I think people that don't like jokes about violence should be lined up and shot...

But in all seriousness, humour, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

It was funny in Austin Powers. It's much less funny in a social environment where half the politicians are dog whistling to the racist, anti-trans and/or conspiracy theorist brain wormers, and calling out protestors for topics they don't support whilst shrugging and supporting the right to protest for those they do. These are the same people who say about protestors that they should be polite and write a letter, which they simply ignore.

The right to protest is absolutely fundamental to a working democracy, and disruption is the point. It might be annoying if people are sitting on the motorway to protest lack of action on fossil fuels, making you late for work, but when the climate collapses and takes our technological society with it you'll wish you'd been sitting there with them.

Now, I have no idea who these people are so they may well be protesting in support of something that I personally think no-one in their right mind or with good conscience could support, but that's the price of living in a free country.

I'll just leave this here..

Why are the authors investigating humour processing by one racial group based on skin colour? I’m sure our sense of humour is pretty much universal.

Because such people are already marginalised. Pick on someone your own size, etc.

So what are these people going to be protesting? Lock downs? National banning phones in schools?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
