Hehe - see what you did there.

I can understand them not wanting to cut longer lengths down, but I was paying for all of it, just needed it shorter to fit the car. Suspected they were just being lazy.

They were polite and all, just not helpful.

The fact that the person who bought our Wellington apartment of plan (and from whom we bought it) was too shortsighted (or miserly) to spring for the optional air conditioning.

The body corp won't let it be retrofitted....

That it is just so damned complicated and non-intuitive with multiple steps to save an email as a PDF into Files on an iPad.

It's the ubiquitous term for any public holiday in the UK really. Some have names (eg Christmas Day etc) but some do not (there is at least one in August just referred to as :August Bank Holiday) but in conversation the term is used commonly to refer to any such event.

Not totally ubiquitous, obviously. World famous in the UK, I guess.

Just noticed that Outlook Mobile App shows today as a Bank Holiday

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

People who sit in public spaces (in this case the Kaitaki Lounge on the ferry) with their feet on the furniture like slobs, with no thought for the customers who will be sitting in that chair later.

Banks. I transfer a bit o money from our bank to our other (different company) bank yesterday (Monday) and it says the other bank should receive it by Friday. What the heck do they do to take so long, is this the real reason we have things called Bank Holidays...are their computers on holiday, do they have rows of people sitting in front of abacuses (abaci ?) and ledgers moving real money from one bank to another ?

My understanding is that some banks (ANZ, BNZ, Westpac, ASB etc) are on a system that allows semi-real time transfer processing - process about every 15 mins or something like that.

Transfers to/from other smaller banks (Heartland, Kiwi, etc) require overnight processing. So if you’re transferring with these banks on, say, NY Eve Friday this year, the funds won’t show up until Wednesday - Sat, Sun and two stat hols on Mon and Tues, no processing.

Edit: While I’m certain this was true a few years ago, it may no longer be correct. However if you arrange a transfer after midnight on any day or any time on a public holiday, it won’t be processed until at least 9 am on the next business day.

Just found this on ASB website:

“NZ banks exchange payments between 9am and midnight on business days only. If the payment has been made after midnight, during the weekend or a public holiday, funds may not arrive and be processed until the morning of the following business day.”

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
