Handle9: IANAL but it does say what he thinks it says. You don’t get an indefinite guarantee, the sellers liability is from the date of the original transaction, not from the date of replacement.

Ah, it was quoted as not supporting the warranty reset claim, not as supporting the warranty reset claim. Without context I thought it was the latter.

So our Samsung Pyro oven is yet again playing up, randomly turning off while cooking, irritating but this tale has a twist. This fault has already being repaired before, end of 2021 after waiting 4 months for a new mainboard to arrive. So we went into Smith City to discuss this with them to be told it is out of warranty and to be further told that we are only entitled to get it repaired once. My response was along the lines of year right but with a lot more words, colourful metaphors and adverbs. Awaiting to hear back from them which I will give until the end of this week or I will lodge a complaint  with the commerce commission.

Write to them rejecting it as having a substantial defect and move on with your life. You’ll have a short fight then get your money back and not have to deal with junk.

I also believe that manufacturer warranties while being a feel good thing are largely irrelevant as the CGA takes precedent.

Both are useful. Weasels who try and avoid their legal CGA obligations need to feel some pain. They either know what they are doing is illegal or they are incompetent and need some incentives to learn their obligations.

New World self checkout.

Right after you've made your payment you get asked "Do you want to print a receipt?" Despite saying "No" it still prints one anyway.

Overt lies from companies. The back of my Blu-ray case says that the movie is region A/B/C (ie. all). I put it in my region B player and got a region mismatch error.

We will request refund or replacement if it comes to that. We have an appliance service person coming this morning to assess the oven. Not sure what they hope to achieve with that given it's an invisible fault. To check the main board they will need to remove the oven, it's an in-built. The retailer requested an in inspection and we decided to play along. It will be interesting.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I've had one still print the fuel discount portion.

It's only taken until 4K discs for there to be no region encoding finally.

The service person visited and checked the oven. The fault occurred while testing so that’s rare. He advised that the main board is faulty and one of the control switches is faulty. The main board fault is a reoccurrence as the board was replaced late 2021. I guess I have some thinking to do as to where from here. Do I reject and seek full replacement or refund or accept another repair. Two main boards in it’s short life I believe is indicative of a design and construction flaw.

Assuming the fault is actually a design/construction fault in the main board, if you get the whole oven replaced you will likely get an equally flawed main board in the new oven. I'd guess that separate replacement boards would be more likely to be a later, hopefully improved, version since it's easier to throw out or reprogram the faulty ones. But it could also be that the main boards in your oven were OK when installed, and developed a fault consequential from some other root cause (maybe that faulty switch?). Or they may not actually be faulty at all, but doing aberrant things due to some other fault.

Diagnosing root causes can be difficult, and may often involve multiple component swaps, so patience may pay off. It's great that the fault occurred while the service person was there... that should have helped him immensely. It perhaps also indicates that it's not all that rare after all.

If it were me then I would get the main board replaced again. If it subsequently fails then you have a really strong case to argue that it's faulty by design and you want a refund to buy something else from a different manufacturer.

Doing some research on the issue it appears to be an issue with Samsung ovens. The service person did say that the install was as per specification for ventilation. The voltage supply was correct. As the fault occurred shortly after start up it was not an excessive heat issue.

Why would they think you want the fuel discount voucher if you don't want the receipt? Either ask two questions (annoying!) or treat them the same, in my opinion.

I did actually challenge the NW checkout supervisor on this.  He told me that it's some contractual thing with the fuel company (Z is it?).

I look at it as providing part-time work for students, where they have the job of grabbing the voucher I leave dangling and chuck it in the bin.

This looks like the sort of thing that one of the apres-news programs could have a go at. Preferably with a 7-year-old showing the adults running this how silly they're being.
