neb: Sitting down to solder up a bunch of through-hole components to fill out a pre-populated-with-SMDs board and realising that I can barely see what I'm soldering any more. Must be... climate change, or... Covid... or the Democrats or something.
I blame Novak Djokovic. Before he started his covid tennis tour I could read everything perfectly.
neb: Just want to see if somewhere like Amazon has them so I can check the reviews to verify that the joints won't collapse after two weeks.
Amazon has a number of these under various names, from the reviews it looks like they're OK for the price, nothing special but OK. The base is too light and tips over with the arm extended but that's easily fixed.
Rikkitic (in the 'What Affects Me' thread):
Some judges in some parts of America are known for 'creative' sentencing and apparently the law there lets them get away with it. Wouldn't it be great if some of those do'h-do'hs could be made, under police supervision, to live in a wheelchair for a day?

Auto-correct is why I have crust issues.

One would not be blamed for thinking that the encounter would have been different if Mr Chowdhury was of a different ethnicity. The judge is clearly not suitable to judging a pie eating competition let a court of law. what an absolute disgrace but not surprising.
Geektastic: The fact that it's not as easy as it should be to use the big TV to do video calls.
Yes I can use Airplay to stream the video. However the camera remains on the device. So if I look at the camera... I'm not looking at the TV.
Why don't the TV's have cameras and software in to do this? Given the world we find ourselves in you'd have thought they'd have jumped on it.
This was a thing a few years ago. It proved to be unpopular and not work very well.
depending on your tv buy a webcam for it.
Its just so much easier being portable on a device in your hands. software's always being updated, and supported.

Yep, I have a camera built in to my TV. However, the reasonably large TV is mounted high on a wall so in order to be seen by the camera we needed to be standing on the couch. The camera is fixed angle and not able to be adjusted at all, so that was a clear failure of design. And the weight of the TV meant an adjustable arm mount was not feasible.

That sort of thing is fairly common, it seems. I have a computer display with built-in camera, and I need to tilt the screen up towards the ceiling if I want to use it for a video call. Who designs these things?!

You could make some good song lyrics out of that sentence.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
