I had to opt out about 250 items on a single webpage to ensure data privacy. So I opted them in for a fine according to the new European rules for opted out as the default state for data privacy since 1st of January 2022. The fine is as per day not an overall payment per case.

Concerning Ads: Pihole configured with unbound as a recursive DNS-server helps a lot ;-)

Depends of their usefulness. I donated to pihole (and various openSource projects). For the remains, there might be at least a chance to get to my whitelist. I pay what I get for. 😄

Needless and meaningless admin.

I needed a request completed by a team for a client.

Sent said request to team 1, who triage it and on-send to team 2.

Paperwork included.

Team 2 come back a couple of days later: Please complete additional paperwork, which is identical to original paperwork, but has a different cover sheet and header/footer.

No additional info required, no additional services requested, no change in scope. Just meaningless admin. Pointless.

Slows the process, creates more work and doesn't achieve anything.

ANZ Bank. Foul 1. Had to wait 20 minutes to speak to someone on their business line and no indication where I was in the line or how much longer the wait would be.

Was having a problem registering a second device. Eventually got the new device registered with his assistance and in the list of devices both show up as iPad Air. No differentiation. On my other banking apps each device is registered as iPad Air and its generation or the name I’ve given it, so you know which device a transaction occurred on in notifications.

I asked if this could be changed so each device has its own specific name. He gives the sigh and argues with me that it’s not needed and why would I ever require such a function and that he’s not prepared to request it if I don’t give him examples. I politely explain how it’s available in my two other bank apps so pop up notifications point to which device was used when money comes in or out. He continues to try and prove why it’s not needed so I told him I’m through discussing and hung up.

Have been thinking about closing ANZ account for a while now because of their bad service, so today’s effort made up my mind.

Trade Me and their ludicrously proscriptive photo system.

A bog standard iPhone image is "too big" because the concept that their system could simply have more realistic criteria that would allow a standard image from a commonly used phone to be uploaded without further processing is clearly a ridiculous one....

Polystyrene packaging. This needs to be banned. It is very difficult to get rid of in Poneke and Te Awakairangi.

When you send a message (via a non-editable means) and notice the typo right after sending.

For bonus points, the message itself was a complaint about something small that really annoyed me.

For more bonus points, it's been a week and the company didn't bother to reply.

Quite stupid really. They should allow you to upload your iphone pic and then just auto-reduce on their end. Much simpler, no brainer.

I'm so tired of US companies and overseas shipping.

For instance the gift shop for NASA at the Johnson Space Center (Texas).

It looks like the USPS was banning deliveries to New Zealand but now it's accepting them (14 January).

But of course the NASA website has caught onto that fact.

I'll contact them to see if they'll lift the embargo on New Zealand.
