My rubbish collection yesterday.
They collected the pre-paid tag off the bin, but seem to have left the rubbish in it...

That yet again promised rain and storms didn't materialise.

We've had rain for two days - and then today summer came back.

Thunderstorms were a bit weak late afternoon yesterday, but I can't complain.

This seems to be a regular occurrence in some North Shore suburbs. It's a strange system where the young fella comes by and rips off all the tags a good 1/2hr to an hour early, then the truck comes by and collects all of the rubbish from said bins with removed tags.

What's to stop someone just sticking their bin out without tags? Also - why are so many bins not being emptied?

is it they are not being emptied or they are stuffed too full the contents done come out easily? pick the bin up, tip the bin upside down wait a few seconds quick shake and place the bin back down, if its packed to tight its not coming out in that time.

I had 2 collections where not everything came out, it was just the stuff in the bottom was a little stuck, reorganized it and it was all good.

I have considered using our chain saw to widen the doorways but luckily I cannot get into the garage😀

This is a huge thread which indicates there are many things which annoy people and it's possible this particular annoyance has already been documented.

With that caveat (and this is a real first world problem), going to cafes (and sometimes restaurants) where the tables have wobbly legs and you are always stuffing paper napkins or something similar under one leg to stabilise them. For me there is nothing more annoying than being in a cafe and sitting in a table like that.  And it's even worse when the proprietor has done the stuffing of the paper under the leg and not bothered to provide a permanent fix.

A lot of cafe tables have adjustable feet for exactly this issue.

Companies that set up an NZ presence, but will ship everything to you from their actual overseas office.

"XYZ Performance NZ"* have a .NZ domain, .NZ email, and obviously a NZ name for their company. Add anything to their cart, and shipping is automatically calculated for you with one option only - Air from Australia.

There is nothing on the site anywhere to hint that this might be the case, everything points towards them being an NZ business. A WhoIs points to them being registered in Melbourne.

At $157 for an $89 dollar item around the size of a tin of beans, they can trot on...

*not quite the actual name.

I've been caught out a few times over the years, so these days, if there is any doubt, I'll call the store and actually ask if the product is being shipped from within NZ.

There were apparently changes to mask requirements 'announced' a few days ago. I put "announced" in quotes because you wouldn't know this by looking at the Latest Updates section on the Covid website, or the News section on the MoH website. The changes are documented on the specific page about masks, but you wouldn't click through to it unless you already knew that they'd changed.

Why oh why can't people keep content updated?

I have never enforced working out notice. I asked that a handover was done to me and would in turn do a handover to the new staff member. Someone working out notice is not focused, why would they be and if they are of a mind they could cause all sorts of mischief.

I think where it is necessary, working out one's notice is acceptable - you are employed, after all. It's how to keep a staff member engaged when they are leaving that's the hard part.

For me, it's especially hard as I am completely lacking in motivation to assist my current employer in my current role, as it's in direct competition with the new employer - so I am just doing what I absolutely need to do to remain employed and nothing more.

If I were my current boss, I'd just put me on garden leave to be rid of me, but I think rather differently to him - which is most of the reason I am leaving.
