MadEngineer: Being asked to swap my better than K/N95 face mask when visiting my nana at the rest home for an inferior one.

Likely the same reasoning why in MIQ guests cant bring their own masks. Staff dont know when it was last changed, cant verify quality etc.

Yep it sucks but you just have to follow their rules.

I believe there is nothing stopping you putting their provided mask over your own.

Sewage and sewerage - but that is getting pretty (yes, I was tempted there 😀) pedantic.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

freitasm: People who can't seem to differentiate trawling vs trolling, principal vs principle.

People who say New Years instead of New Year.

I think I've ranted about that before and have pretty much come to the conclusion that it's a battle I've lost...

I'd concede that it's an abbreviation of New Year's Eve so let them away with it.

Pretty and Pritty (that word doesn't exist) :)

I find this one bizarre. The malapropyisms are understandable, this isn't. A spell checker will highlight this every time.

Some people just think that the squiggly red line is a decoration.

Kind of like the squiggly line you missed under malapropyisms (sic) 😁

"youse" instead of "you".

Just...no. Unless you're Scottish but even then...no.

Also the Americanism "x represents a good value."

The "a" is superfluous  - as the 'of' is when Americans also say "it's not that big of a deal".

Ask them if it's OK to wear the generic one over the top of your good one, so far they've always been OK with this when I've done it. They're doing it because they can't really police the bazillion-odd random masks people turn up with, so need to enforce some uniform standard even if it's a somewhat mediocre one.

Yup - had this quite well explained to me by a nurse when I was in hospital with my son pre-Christmas.

Although my mask was more comfortable and arguably more effective than the disposable they forced me to wear, they simply don't have the bandwidth (or the energy) to be checking the effectiveness or suitability of the homemade masks that people use, so just put a blanket rule in place - "our masks or you're out".

The strength of the English language is it's a growing ever changing and adapting language. We need to embrace the differences. Here in Aotearoa our "English" is /will evolve to incorporate Te Reo into our vernacular , this is a good thing.

I understand if it's homemade/cloth (my emphasis on quote). But if you have a clearly marked N95 or P2 mask, it's just dumb to ask someone to replace that with a blue mask as I know schools are doing with staff.

yes it does seem dumb but there are fake masks out there wit hthe standards on them, and there is also the case of how long have you been wearing it for.

As mentioned its just easier/less admin for the wear our one or dont come in rule.
