^This. They could have easily P. Jackson'ed the detail out of Cloud Atlas into three movies like they're doing the Hobbit. But I am glad they didn't. I would rather a tingling-sensation filled 3 hours that covers all the bases than 3 years to see 3 movies that cover more than all the bases.

Also, back to getting you to watch it again: You should watch it again. It is without a doubt a slow start, but it gets very good (if you enjoy fantasy fiction).

A Good Day To Die Hard (AKA Die Hard 5) - 4/10

Often when you go to movies, it's your pre-conceived notions which affect your enjoyment as much as the film itself. It's one of the reasons why I try, wherever possible, to avoid watching trailers or reading reviews for films before I see them. But in this connected age it's pretty hard to avoid hearing something (good or bad) about a film. I was pleased to be able to stay remarkably uninformed about Cabin in the Woods (other than it was good), and consequently I really enjoyed it. However, there are some films where you know it's going to be bad, no matter how hard you try and avoid the hype in advance, and you go in with preconceived notions regardless. A Good Day to Die Hard is just such a film.

I can't imagine that anyone sat down with the script for Die Hard 5 and thought "here's an Oscar winner!" Or even, "this'll kick Schwarzenegger and Stallone to the kerb!" It's a pretty obvious cash in after the decidely average Die Hard 4.0, trading on the nostalgia-lite we seem to be going through for revived 80s action heroes. So it was pretty obvious to anyone with eyes that A Good Day to Die Hard wasn't going to be a very good day at all, and that was my preconception walking into the theatre.

The film met all my preconceptions. The characters are dull. The action is flat and boring. The humour is MIA. The plot is DOA. There's little to relate it to any of the past films - the character names may be the same, but the concept of the first three films really doesn't show through here. The villain is extremely disappointing - whoever he is - and doesn't hold a candle to Alan Rickman or Jeremy Irons. DH5 doesn't add anything new, and it really seems like a waste of everyone's time. I didn't walk out of the theatre (it's not quite that bad), but I found myself looking at my watch and yawning even though I wasn't tired.

^^^ Sounds like it ain't even worth seeing on DVD. I didn't enjoy Die Hard 4.0 much when I finally viewed that one.

Aladdin - 8/10

It was nice to be able to take my daughter to see this in the weekend. Event cinemas have been doing a Disney princess week for a reasonable price. There was more adults than kids there but my kid enjoyed it and I did to even if it was the 3rd or so time seeing it. If only Albany woould replace the screen in cinema 5 as the marks on it are distracting. When we went a few weeks ago one cinema had about 6 pieces of gum on it. And they wonder why we go less and less.

Oz - 4/10

I was hungover on Saturday, and me and couple mates decided it would be a good idea to go see Oz. Little did we know we would be forcibly hurling our $12.50 spent down the porcelain walls of the cinema loo's.

The acting: terrible. The script: very predictable. The story: boring and once again, predictable – apart from the large ending scene where Oz (James Franco) shows his true colours.

The only up side (for me) was that it held true with it's animation, the flying monkeys were quite scary, Finn (Flynn? The good flying monkey) was very cute, and the little porcelain doll girl was also.

{Potential spoiler} When Mila Kunis turns, all I could think was "shut up Meg". {/spoiler}

In saying all this, I am being fairly critical as I had high expectations for this film. My recommendation, wait for the DVD to come out then stream it. It's nice to look at but there's no real substance to it.

Saw OZ the Great and Powerful at the movies yesterday.

Was....OK.

I found the CGI less than spectacular, but the cast and the premise quite good - especially if you view it as a prequel to the Wizard of Oz.

The flying baboons were pretty good.

Did the gum add to the 3D effect?

Fortunately it was a 3D movie and we did not notice it. I think if it had been 2D it would have been very distracting.

Loved it. Not for everybody though. Worth checking out if you're into weird foreign stuff and disturbing imagery.

OZ the Great and Powerful (3D) - its a family movie and came across very much so as that. Which was good, its something everyone can enjoy. 7/10

Watched Oz the Great and Powerful the other day, it wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as I had hoped it to be either. It felt like Sam Raimi's attempt at a very Tim Burton-esque type of film that didn't really hit the mark. I also didn't like James Franco as Oz, but that aside it was enjoyable just not a film I'll rush out to buy on blu-ray. 7/10

Also watched Invictus last night. Very enjoyable, I found myself watching the final like we could somehow change history and make NZ win. No mention of Suzie though :p 8/10

Wooden acting, terrible dialogue, improbable stunts, ridiculous amounts of gore, endless bullets (regardless of how small the magazines are).

10/10

Milla Jovovich looks like she's put on a touch of weight...not a bad thing IMO. Makes her a more believable Butt-Kicker.

It's a dreadful movie and achieves everything it sets out to do...it's entertaining, gory, unbelieveable and violent.

Ok I did wonder if you meant that but you didn't actually mention a single positive thing in your original post if you had added that sentence I would not have queried it. I'm not sure I'd ever give an RE film a 10 but I can see where you are coming from.
