Having read the book 3-4 years ago, I was largely skeptical. I have got to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

While a little long winded at time, I still got the full body tingles several times throughout.

IMHO, 10/10.

It's definitely a love it or hate it kind of movie. Personally I loved it; I can sort of see why many people would be discouraged at the beginning... and also why many people might think it is pretentious, boring drivel after watching it all the way through. But yeah it's really one of these movies that I think will divide people, and I personally really really enjoyed and had the same spine tingling feeling while watching. 9/10 from me. I'll have to read the book some time!

(BTW is there a legal way to watch it locally yet?)

I also watched Cloud Atlas the other day, and thought it was brilliant. Very long movie and does require a bit of thinking as it can get confusing in some parts, but a very good story. I would score it a 9.5/10

I purchased the Dredd bluray yesterday. Great movie with our own Karl Urban. It reminds me a bit of District 9's look and feel.

Just finished watching Looper.

Much better the second time round. Did like the fact that the previews alluded to the Loopers and their time line expiry and the movies goes off on another track for the last half. I know they were trying to make Joseph Gordon-Levitt look more like a young Bruce Willis, but it did detract from the movie a bit. I think the audience has enough intelligence to know that they are playing the same character in different timelines.

ZD30 is at least twice as good as Argo ... But neither were Oscar material in my books

Feminism for the win in this show! Don't read more if you don't know how USama bin laden died otherwise i don't consider it a spoiler but it could well be spoiler material so dont read on ok

Apparently the Seals scenes were as real as it gets ...

I can't believe how slow it felt to get to UBL ... You'd think he'd woken up by all the helicopter noise

a warning to all guys, if your wife or better half tries to drag you to see The Host, resist, it will be 2 hours of your life you will never get back. 1/10 and Andrew Niccol hang your head in shame, you were the only reason i gave in and you really let me down.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Mind you Niccol's last film In Time was pretty crappy too.

Even he can't work miracles on this turd (from the queen of turds - the woman who gave the world Twilight - Mayer ?).

Seen On Blu-ray;

Skyfall - excellent presentation, short on extras and it doesn't match the boxset ! 8/10

Zero Dark Thirty - crapfest that doesn't stand repeat screenings. Excellent picture and sound 3/10

"There Will Be Blood"

It was fantastic. I swear, I have a terrible time trying to explain to people that There Will Be Blood is one of the best movies I've ever seen. I tell them that it's an unorthodox movie about oil and greed, with a slow pace but it's almost impossible to describe without actually seeing it. I've also talked to people that have seen it and they don't seem to appreciate the movie itself. It seems like people are just caught up in the increasing amount of action and super crazy CGI films that are nothing but flashy. I feel like There Will Be Blood is immensely underappreciated. It has one of the best characters that I've seen since Charles Foster Kane.

Oz - The Great and Powerful 6/10

This was an okay movie. Nothing really wrong with it, but nothing really spectacular either. I saw the stage version of Wicked in London last year, which gives another prequel take on the Wizard of Oz story, and compared with that, Oz the Great and Powerful seemed a bit thin and uninteresting. Wicked was a great story about challenging preconceptions, whereas Oz just seemed a bit frivolous and empty. As light entertainment, it's okay, but nothing in here to warrant re-watching.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey... Too long. Some scenes could have two or three minutes less without compromising the story telling. Possibly a 2:30h movie instead of three hours. 7/10

Celeste and Jesse Forever. What can I say... 5/10.

Hitchcock. An interesting movie. Good story behind the scenes of Psycho. 7.5/10.

I must admit I was quite disappointed with Gangster Squad. Some bits of it were somewhat entertaining but I got quite bored towards the end. I didn't really go into it with too many expectations, but it still seemed to try too hard without really going anywhere or saying anything new. Lots of style but not much substance, and some of the lines really were cringe-worthy. By the end I wished I'd just re-watched LA Confidential instead.

Maybe 6/10 from me if I'm generous.
