Hugo - 7/10. I enjoyed the story and the atmosphere of the movie. An interesting and fun setting with excellent artwork and visuals. For me it just did not go to the next level of enjoyment. Not sure why maybe it was too serious for a G rated movie.

The Croods - 10/10. The whole family really enjoyed this one. I liked the way they over emphasized the caveman mentality and abilities. Really fun, great story and excellent effects. Nothing like the kids oohing and aahing while clinging to your arm.

sidefx:
stuartgr: Gangster Squad - 9/10.  Awesome movie, great action and humour.

I must admit I was quite disappointed with Gangster Squad.  Some bits of it were somewhat entertaining but I got quite bored towards the end. I didn't really go into it with too many expectations, but it still seemed to try too hard without really going anywhere or saying anything new. Lots of style but not much substance, and some of the lines really were cringe-worthy.  By the end I wished I'd just re-watched LA Confidential instead.

Maybe 6/10 from me if I'm generous.

5/10

GI Joe - Retaliation. 8/10. Its at least as good as the original (damned with faint praise!) but if you go in expecting big dumb action form big dumb action heroes, you'll be a happy camper. My main complaint is with a plot point - you will have seen on the trailers London being destroyed. Not sure if its a huge spoiler, so I'll drop down some lines:

The Joes were poised to spring into action, but waited until after several million people had been killed and the economy of Britain wiped out before they sprung. Then there is no further mention of the enormous disaster for the rest of the flick, not even a moments silence when they're handing out the medals.

Just saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for the first time over the weekend...

A surprisingly witty and off-beat film.

Val Kilmer's character was particularly interesting.

le pact des loups/brotherhood of the wolf - french bluray.

this is soooo much better than the uk/au release !

first it is the full directors cut;

secondly the picture and sound are far ahead of the local release.

8/10

Would it be suitable for sensitive 3 year old to watch? He finds almost all violence disturbing.

I saw Oblivion last night. I was pretty impressed. I enjoyed the rollout of the plot, some mind bending moments for sure. 8.5/10 from me.

Twilight - Breaking Dawn part 2 = 1/10. This was so crap. I have watched all the previous ones and while I do not rate them much more than this one the best was certainly not left to last.

Never Let Me Go = 6/10. While the story of growing up with the sole purpose of being an organ donor was interesting and it being told very well it was just to slow for me. Had a really hard time staying awake for this one and the wife did not.

Which one? Both have elements that scare. My 5 year old was more scared with Hugo but my 8 year old was more scared with Croods as it involved the parents (dad) fighting for survival. I do not remember any violence in hugo just a strange cop who chased them around. Croods had violence in relation to fighting animals so that is liekly to upset. It is hard to tell.
