Bella got scared watching The Muppets. She didn't like when the dogs fought in Babe. She was scared when the father appeared in Mary Poppins...

We don't take her to the movies and she's happy watching Sir David Attenborough programs. Anything else she doesn't care really.

sonyxperiageek: Jack Reacher (2012) - 9/10

I saw this on a plane recently. While I didn't have the full cinematic experience I found the movie very enjoyable and far better than what I had been led to believe based on reviews and boxoffice performance.

I haven't read the books so I had no preconceived notion of the character.

networkn: I saw Oblivion last night. I was pretty impressed. I enjoyed the rollout of the plot, some mind bending moments for sure. 8.5/10 from me.

Cool! Am planning to see this on Tues.

GI Joe: Retaliation - 3/10

I don't think anyone walks into a GI Joe movie expecting Shakespeare.  But even with those lowered expectations, I was disappointed by Retaliation.

I was probably one of the few people who didn't think GI Joe: Rise of COBRA was that bad.  I know it got panned by most, but it was still a big, fun, dumb actioner.  Retaliation, however, only met two of those three epithets (no prizes for guessing which two).

The story - incoherent and pointless.  The intrigue - unintriguing.  The action - un-thrilling.  And there's all these dumb changes from the first film (quite aside from dumping most of the original cast), like making it more American-centric rather than having a squad of international recruits.  Despite it being several years since the first film's setting, the technology available to the Joes seems to have been pared back to simple guns and vehicles.  Dumb.

There's no spark here.  It feel's flat and boring, a 30 min film crammed into 2 hours.  The 3D was completely unnecessary.  I seem to recall that the film was delayed so that it could be converted to 3D - waste of time.  I actually heard a rumour that it was delayed because early screenings had revealed big problems with the story, which required re-shoots.  If that's true, then I hate to think what it was like before!

Unless you are a real die-hard GI Joe fan (or perhaps, if you are), then stay away.  It might be worth a casual glance at on DVD, but even then I'd wait until you find a copy lying on the street rather than buying or renting it.

We don't watch much TV here anyway. Mostly movies from iTunes once a week and a couple of TV series also from iTunes, at night after Bella goes to bed. Bella watches some of the animal programsd but she really likes reading.

Sometimes is strange seeing five year old kids at school jumping with sounds like Ben 10 (what a load of crap) or going around with a light sabre without really understanding Star Wars. But hey, some parents rather have electronic baby sitters...

sonyxperiageek: Olympus has Fallen 8.5/10

Got panned in reviews, but I am looking forward to it now.

Taken 2 (Also got panned), but I liked it. Not as good as the first, but still good, 7.5.

Liam Neeson is da man. I saw him in the Grey (8.5/10) and he was epic in one of my favourite all time movies (Love Actually 10/10). I have seen him in a fair amount of stuff.

Oblivion - last night. 7/10.

Not usually a fan of Tom Cruise films, but this one was mostly good - right up to the ending which was cornball.

Olympus has fallen 7.5/10 for me, I really enjoyed it, I think it could have been epic with a little more character build up.

Oblivion = 8/10 I really enjoed it. Yes it is very computer generated, yes you do not need to think much throughout it, yes Tom can be painful to watch for somepeople but I liked it and I wish I look like him at his age and had those toys to play with. The aircraft was way cool.

ToPGuNZ: If only Albany woould replace the screen in cinema 5 as the marks on it are distracting. When we went a few weeks ago one cinema had about 6 pieces of gum on it. And they wonder why we go less and less.

As an update the supervisor on deck in the weekend said they are waiting on head office to remove the gum. I emailed head office and they said they would pass the email on to the cinema manager. So going round in circles but I am now keen to push this. No contact phone on the website so off to do some digging now.
