freitasm:

Expecting something to arrive via UPS. The sender emailed me to ask if I received it. Looked at the tracking site and notice a message from today saying the package can't be delivered because of an incorrect address.

Called UPS. The address is correct. The phone is correct.

New Zealand's delivery partner is Aramex. That explains it.

They really are quite special people there.

Them and pass the parcel seem to have problems reading. I have a sign by my door saying to leave parcels in the chest in the carpark. They have to walk past it to get to the door. There is also a sign on it that says to leave parcels in it.

Instead they leave it outside the front door, where it will get rained on and ruined. Absolute idiots.

To be fair, called again this morning. Was #4 in the queue. The woman confirmed they couldn't deliver because of roadworks (not a good excuse, roadworks was being done uphill). Delivered this afternoon.

It's not just here in NZ.

Son's a FIFO worker in WA, recently bought a house in Perth.  Had to go and buy a bed, unsure of ETA , Covid blah, blah, shipping ex Melbourne.  It is what it is, he tells them: "Leave it around the back under the covered patio if it arrives while I'm away".

Off he goes to sh*tsville in the desert somewhere for a two-week stint.  2 days in, tracking says the bed still hasn't left Melbourne, next minute young fellangets pinged by the security camera and sees the courier dropping it off by the front door, visible from the street and exposed to any potential rain.

He phones up the freight co. to ask them to go and shift it since he won' be back for another week-and-a-half.  Their response: "No, we're not doing that.  Call us to make a claim if it gets stolen or damaged by weather."

(He's a bit of a d*mb*ss too though.  We told him to go and say hi to the neighbours and get a phone number.  He did that...it's stuck on the fridge inside his house.)

Auto-correct is why I have crust issues.

Geektastic: Don’t they sell beds in WA?!

I'm sure they do. He actually did make the purchase in-store at his nearest Bunnings, but no local stock and it apparently ships from Melbourne.  Got the initial ' it should be here in a week or so' soon followed by messages of 'it could be another couple'.

But no matter where it shipped from he did need to get it delivered to his home.  So let's not detract from the point of my post which was the ignorance or inability of the local delivery people to follow simple instructions, and their subsequent refusal to do anything about it, and how that's on a par with experiences of posters here.

JB Hifi  - click and collect.

Ordered an item that was "in stock at local store and available for click and collect".

If an item is in stock at local store, it's supposed to be available for pick up in 1-2 days.

9 days on and still no closer to being able to collect said clicked item.

Emailed - response is automated - we will reply within 24-48 hours. That was Friday. It's now the following Thursday. Being a long weekend, I expected a delay, but this is beyond ridiculous.

They've lost a regular customer.

Provisional tax. Swearing at the bill we have to pay then researching and coming across this on RNZ News from 2013:

“The Labour Party is accusing the Government of dragging its feet on axeing provisional tax.

Labour says the tax is an unfair compliance cost on businesses as it forces them to correctly guess their future income, or face penalties.

Revenue Minister Todd McClay says it is too early to say whether provisional tax will be repealed, but he does say he is open to discussing how income tax is collected from businesses.

Labour's small business spokesperson David Clark says the Government has already had extensive discussions on the issue and it now needs to act.”

That the CCC after multiple complaints and visits etc from their "Traffic Engineers" that nothing has been done to stop cars entering the Cycleway from out Street (Across a T Intersection)!

No reflectors or Reflector Posts or anything.

Just witnessed yet another car turn right, jump the kerb and enter the Cycleway as a cyclist was coming head-on! Car stopped then once cyclist had passed, continued up the Cycleway!

Someone will get seriously injured or killed before the CCC will actually do anything!

It annoys me when people are never satisfied.

As you're probably aware, right-to-repair advocates have been complaining for some time that Apple in particular has too much of a grip on first-party replacement parts, requiring that you go through a potentially-expensive authorised repairer. If you want to fix the phone yourself, you'd need to use third-party parts, which may be inferior to the first-party ones.

Yesterday that changed, and Apple made first-party parts available to order by anyone. The advocates are now whining that Apple's forcing the use of first-party parts and making it too difficult to use third-party ones.

Grizzle, whine, moan...

And...apparently first-party parts are too expensive and iPhones are too hard to repair at home. SMH

What annoys me is when my brother-in-law has a day off so expects that everyone in his close circle is available for chats on Messenger.

I'm trying to browse the internet work here!

As I get older I'm less inclined to spend hours researching things I want to do but know nothing about (at the moment it's solar, central heating and lining a garage). In the past it's been vital I work much of it out for myself because we've been on a tight budget and couldn't afford to make any mistakes.

Now we're free of the financial constraints I'm happy to pay someone to do just do what we need. But past experiences have not been great when we've done that.

We asked a well known NZ window treatments company for a quote. It took weeks for them to even come to measure up. We had to chase them multiple times for the quote and in the end they just came back with a single figure for the whole house. One number, that was it. No room by room breakdown, let alone window by window. They stopped returning our calls.

We found another supplier who are at least 50% cheaper in all aspects but we've had to tell them to stop contacting us. They'd send an email, then call to say they'd emailed and then text to say they'd called and emailed. It was non-stop at all times of the day and night.

We've been wanting to install double glazing, a new deck, kitchen and bathroom with some alterations. We engaged an architect who took six months to do some basic drawings which we're then passed to a builder in November who still hasn't quoted for any part of the work.

I also want some work done on retrimming my car. I will pay top dollar for someone to take the time to do it properly with the right materials and I've said that to every place I've been to. But four places who all advertise they can do absolutely anything have all said "oh I dont know about that, this will be tricky, that might need some work, I don't know how we will do that". It's retrimming some door cards for gods sake. Why can't someone just say "yes we can do that, it will take time and will cost $x, but we're prepared to do it properly if you're happy to wait and pay".

So we end up doing nothing :(
