nathan:Geektastic:surfisup1000: This is possibly going to affect overseas companies/people providing IT work to NZ clients.
Haven't read it though but the general idea is that if you sell more than 10k into NZ then the foreign company/supplier must register with nz tax authorities.
That could be a deterrent and make it more difficult for nz companies to find specialists.
As with all these desperate money grabs, there will be numerous unintended consequences and lots of fees for lawyers and accountants.
Better to tackle government waste like flag referenda....
the flag referendum is the price of democracy
the govt of NZ wastes far far more money on things, than trying to get NZers to be more patriotic

Geektastic:
Hardly. We had democracy before and we will have it after. It's just a waste of $26 million. Of our money.
richms: I have heaps of ryobi gear that I bought off amazon thru a reshipper because of the ripoff at bunnings. Now I am replacing them as they die with Milwaukee, again, ripoff here compared to the US.
Also a friend found out that ridgid there is the same as AEG here, so you can get a charger locally for places that don't let you run a step-down because of overzealous site safety malarkey.
Add 15% - meh. So long as it doesnt slow stuff down then fine. If they can sort out the BS fees on GST imports that make shipments of about $500 so damn expensive then I will probably actually import more stuff since I avoid anything more than about $220 US because of the fees.

richms: The tradies I know tend to go for the cheap stuff because its not economical to insure them and they get ripped off all the time. Seems the AEG gear gets them thru for most fencing jobs and similar but is cheap enough to replace when someone busts into the ute.
Good point, the pro stuff is pricey. The only issue would be that the warranty is probably voided if using it for trade stuff. But then again, the retailers may not know who is using it.
nathan:
$26M is nothing
if it gets Kiwis to care about their country more, be proud to wear the flag on clothing etc and have NZ more recognisable on the world stage, that is money well spent in my books

Ministry of Social Development spends $26M before lunchtime every single day of the week, including weekends
