What goes up must come down. In this case, it's the gates that were blocking the access road to the mine.
tl;dr "Pike River protestors have been told to move on and remove the gates they put up to block Solid Energy."
It seems like the mine may well be sealed after all.

Why am I not even slightly surprised....
And no sign of Bernie Monk anywhere. I bet he's not feeling quite as cocky now as he was last week.

To what end? The Government politicised this and spent > $50M. Imagine where it could have been used elsewhere like health to do untold benefits.
Sounds like from the press conference they are not going to attempt to bring the remains out

My feelings exactly. If there are bodies buried under a kilometer of water it's marked as a war grave (assuming it happened during wartime) and is treated as a grave site that can't be disturbed. If they're buried under a kilometer of rock, they get drilled into and photographed and mucked about with. It's a grave site, not a spectacle.
Should have just sealed the mine and made a memorial for those that perished.
It's a bit grim, but honestly the most realistic outcome in terms of dollars and time spent.

The $50-60 million dollars spent so far could have created a much better on going legacy for the Coast, rather than another abandoned fatal mine shaft.....
Government to Open cast the mine.
Sell the coal to China to pay for evrything including N Z National Debit.
Allow DOC to manage Stewart Island only.
Nate001: I really feel for the families who have moved on but a few won’t let it go and keep dragging it up.
I blame those who kept giving them false hope. From day1 .
We make new laws to try & stop this happening again, then some want to bypass those laws & risk a repeat .
So lives lost & lesson not learnt .
The simple answer allways was : get unbiased Aussie mine safety inspectors to access it . They wouldnt allow re-entry . End of story .

It isn't a spectacle, it is a crime scene.
