Been thinking about a NAS for a while. Lots of working from home during lockdown makes it an even more appealing solution.
I don't currently use a NAS but have been thinking about it for some time now. The Synology models definitely look very interesting, I wasn't aware of just how much they could do!
Leaving aside the business uses, with personal data exceeding cloud storage limits (making additional storage very expensive each month) a NAS is almost essential to back up your own data if you have a lot of photos..... need a new NAS to replace my 7+ year old model that is way too slow for efficient backups.
This new NAS looks quite impressive. I particularly like the Desktop Backup and Virtual Machine Manager features. It's come a long way since I bought the Synology DS115.
I’d love a NAS- would be so handy for file storage and security cameras etc
It's just about time to replace my Zyxel NAS.
I already own 4 Synology NAS - 3 for work and 1 for home. At work I have 2 918+s configured in a Synology High Availability (SHA) cluster so that my users will always have access to our network. The ironic thing is we had several failures of discs before we used the SHA, but since using the SHA we've had zero problems with discs. Uptime is uptime I suppose.
I've been a long time observer of the Synology brand but have never made the jump to their products (I almost did for my last one, but the Asustor JUST won out for what I required it for).
I own both QNAP and Asustor branded NAS devices and seeing some of the new features available on with the updated OS make me excited to give the Synology brand a try. I also learnt today that they have routers which I've never seen before so going to do some more digging into those.
Ooh - shiny new badge!
Unlike many of the others, I could really do with the NAS though.
I have a (fairly) old Synology DS415Play that is 32bit and so is limited to a 16Gb volume. I have already hit this limit.
It would be nice to have some more disk space!
The DS920+ also has the following features I'd like to take advantage of:
- The J4125 quadcore CPU should make my VMs run considerably faster, aloing with the 4Gb of Ram (only 1Gb in my current unit).
- The two M2 SSD slots will prove useful as well, as with 4 disks the max IO is somewhat constrained but I don't really NEED an 8 disk unit. ;-)
Cheers,
Brett.
Very cool comp and epic prizes, a lot of information in the vids, and lots of innovation going on, is very cool to see
Don't currently have a NAS, have been looking at them for a while, need more storage, looking at putting in some cameras, and a few other smart home things, and just running a NAS rather than a whole computer would make it a lot simpler.
Cheers
Matt
In desperate need of a new NAS to replace failing machine, currently old PC running unraid that use used less and less for things like VM's, Synology NAS is a perfect form factor to be hidden away providing data and services. Surveillance functionalities option looks like a cool addition, already have a couple of people in mind that would be a nice fit for.
