@jonathan18 I think you can refund anytime. When I was heading out I saw their customer service counter, still busy as and I saw their guarantee that if you are not happy with anything just headback and they will refund it.

So when I got home I emailed them for the refund of my membership as I said my experience was not I hoped for and viola got my money back with in 24 hrs

Apparently Costco has a Traeger gill in their Auckland store, if anyone is going out there and goes past that section can you see if they have the pellets.

The price locally is now $40 for a 9KG bag

If they are cheaper at Costco I will make the effort to go there otherwise I am going to wait until after Christmas when the hysteria has died down.

Unless you're going for a specific smoked flavour, can't you just use any old pellets, e.g. ULEB pellets? This seems a bit like the special furniture oil where you need to buy separate very expensive oil for pine, oak, fir, ash, beech, etc, and they're all the same thing.

You need food safe pellets.

If it's untreated (probably) pine is there any difference? Going back to the wood oils analogy, there's a ton of "food safe wood oils" which are just standard wood oils with "food safe" added to the name and the price doubled or quantity in the container halved.

Edited to add: Sorry, not quite. Just looked at the MSDS for Feast Watson Food Grade Timber Oil vs. Feast Watson Timber Floor Oil and the food grade has D-limonene in it while the floor oil doesn't. So to make your floor oil food grade, add a few drops of lemon essence.

The pellets are not only being used for heat but to flavour food. different wood has different flavours, there is a nice link here to help explaine.

https://www.charmate.co.nz/how-tos/which-wood-should-i-use#:~:text=Woods%20to%20avoid&text=Some%20woods%20aren't%20suitable,Sycamore%2C%20Liquid%20Amber%20and%20Redwood.

Here is the main point.

WOODS TO AVOID

It’s tempting to go out scavenging and find your own wood, and that’s great, but make sure you know what you're getting. Some woods aren't suitable for smoking and could be harmful, eg.Pine, Fir, Spruce, Redwood, Cedar, Cypress, Elm, Eucalyptus, Sassafras, Sycamore, Liquid Amber and Redwood.

Generally, you're OK with trees you eat fruit or nuts from; orchard trees or nuts are fine.

Never use coniferous woods with their resin content for barbecuing! Only (untreated) hardwoods (i.e. beech or birch) or fruit woods - as already mentioned.

Think it was $59 for 15.5kg bag. Gourmet blend.

I went in twice during the week after work. Numbers have calmed down to sensible levels. I asked about stock replacement. A staff member told me they are rebating many items to make room for new stock. Sure enough looked around and rebates are shown on some price tickets. Is that a fancy word for discount or is there more to it? Anyone here bought a rebate item?

So they're running them through a jointer to cut grooves or slots into the edges to fit in more items? Seems a bit excessive.

Costco's international pull through begins for NZ suppliers:

Stuff: Cookie Time: The Japan order is two to three days of production time for us – and that’s just a trial. If the product sells well in Japan, not as well as we are selling in Auckland but just well enough, and other countries come on board, it would further accelerate the growth Cookie Time is seeing significantly.”

Cookie Time was growing at around 30% per year prior to Costco’s New Zealand launch, and it anticipates that will almost double as more Costco markets come on board.

I went there last weekend. Must have been about 2-3000 people in there. Busy as hell. But there was a fairly wide range on everything that I saw, and I was quite impressed. I wanted to try one of the pizzas but the lines were way too long to do this - so maybe next time I'll go on a weekday instead.

Nah, there is not really anything more to know. The value of the instant rebate is automatically deducted at the till. I guess it is just a way of showing that there is a temporary discount on the item.

For stuff like Meat, it allows them to discount, without needing to re-label every pack. "Instant rebate $20/pack".

Have brought heaps of stuff on instant rebate.

We were there yesterday morning just after opening time at about 10 am. First visit to the NZ one after visiting one in France as a member last month during my holiday back home and a few visits to the ones in Brisbane as a guest.

It was nice and quiet until about 11.30 when it filled up very quickly. Lucky my partner's sister only did a quick shop so was able to order hot dogs/drinks for us before it started getting manic while we finished looking around. By the time we had gone through the check out at 12 the queue at the foodcourt was huge, as was the line for non members to pick up their cards (down the carpark and swerving around the main entrance). If you're coming on weekends opening time seems to be the best slot and maybe skip breakfast to head to foodcourt first before shopping 😅
