Finally got round to seeing Iron Man 3. Fantastic movie 8.5/10.

On a side note I noticed that the second reply to this thread ever was chiefie commenting how good the first Iron Man movie was. This thread is in its sixth year and has survived a whole trilogy. Well done guys and keep it up.

What a coincidence! I'm watching the 1990 original with my wife, who's never seen it before.

How is she liking it? Not too violent? I think what I like about the original is it doesn't take itself too seriously. This newer one did too much methinks.

She really enjoyed it. It's one of those cult 80s/90s films that passed her by. She's not much of an Arnie fan, so that's probably why she never saw it.

It was great to rewatch. Very much a B-movie, but that's what I like about it. Paul Verhoeven made some great films that a lot of people just didn't get, or took at face value (I'm thinking Starship Troopers in particular here). I don't know whether Total Recall was faithful to Phillip K Dick's original story, but its a fun sci-if action romp that doesn't take itself too seriously. And that's good enough for me.

As an aside, I rented the DVD as I don't own it, and looks like it might one of the very earliest DVDs. The menu structure is pretty clunky, there's no anti piracy warnings, and after the film it shows a list of coming attractions. Not trailers, just a list of film titles with the film poster. Lol.

I wish I'd seen TR on the big screen when it came out. I saw T2 at the theatre in 1991 and was totally blown away by it at the time.

I agree about Verhoeven's movies. I have Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers on DVD. The director's commentaries are quite interesting. His Dutch vision brings a great perspective to what could otherwise be really awful American movies.

BTW, you're lucky that your wife will watch movies like that with ya; my Mrs doesn't like violence and gore.

Silver Linings Playbook.

De Niro playing De Niro. Jennifer Lawrence just not working. 6/10.

"Warm Bodies" 8/10

Was thinking "ugh, not another 'Twilight'", but I really enjoyed this. Good humor, good story and the acting and script was great. 8/10 from me

Iron Man 3 - 6/10. I would have rated it a 7 but the theatre had the sound cranked up way to high and it was getting painful to listen to. I enjoyed the film generally; it was just not amazing for me. I like how Downey plays the character and the one liners are very good. Plenty of fun moments as well.

I rate the parents that brought their 4 year old along 0/10 for parenting skills. The previews alone would have given my kids nightmares for weeks let alone the loudness of the movie destroying their ears. In saying that, he probably slept through the whole thing

She's AWFUL !  3/10

Also in the awful box - Die hard 5  3/10

Surprisingly not awful is The Rock's latest film, Snitch.  6/10

Some oldies from the BD shop

Dangerous Liaisons 7/10

Superman 2 - Richard Donner cut 8/10, would have been a 9 if the BD had HD sound.

First Knight - borderline awful 4/10
