There seems to have been a spate of these. On a trip to Auckland recently, there were numerous passing lanes on SH1 where the entire lane was coned off for no apparent reason. Certainly no roadworks were in progress.

Also, "road works" where there's nothing being done, and the work is not actually affecting the road (e.g. drainage work). Cones are put out, and a lower speed limit set, for something that does not make the road any less safe than it normally is.

At least it's drainage works. Here in Queensland, we have a 110km/hr motorway reduced to 80km/hr for 5km because there's construction next to the motorway. Not even on it! And for a segment of the 100km/hr motorway, it's reduced to 80km/hr despite there being no discernible road works, even next to the motorway.

Then they wonder why everyone starts ignoring the temporary limits. The recent temporary limit between Ohinewai and Rangariri being a classic example. Over 7 km of 70kph where there was only ever work taking place over about 500 metres at a time and on times of many days there was no work at all taking place.

It's my understanding these limits are supposed to be removed during periods when the work they relate to isn't taking place i.e no workers present. There's a case in the courts at the moment challenging a speeding ticket issued where there was no work taking place.

Signs on store windows or office doors saying back in x minutes.

When was the sign posted? I guess sometime in the last x minutes? Or maybe they were delayed?

Imbeciles shown on TV news who can't seem to wear a mask over their nose. These are people with apparent educations, not bottom of society, yet even now they still don't know how to wear a mask correctly. There is no excuse for that and it really annoys me.

An online retailer is selling a decorative product. The only photo is of the box, not the product.

Edit: The manufacturer's site is no better, having two photos of the box from different angles, but again, no product.

That these electric cars somehow all look the same.

I was pondering this the other day. When you combine manufacturer’s obsession with the SUV format with putting a slab of batteries low down in the chassis you end up with the majority of EVs being the shape they are.
The freedom that the ‘skateboard’ layout gives hasn’t really been optimised yet. Partly because the OEMs are still producing full and partial ICE vehicles alongside EVs.
For the record, I like sedans over SUVs for looks and efficiency but the latter wins hands down for practicality. So the small thing that annoys me is the manufacturers have decided what I should like. They’ll say they are “responding to consumer demand”, but I would say they are driving it in that direction.

So maybe you could almost go as far as modifying yours statement to “Cars somehow all look the same”.

ROFL one just now floated between the glare of my LCD monitor and your comment.

Also, the other week I had a fly buzzing around the inside of my office but it would only be visible for the length of time it took to find the fly spray.  I did eventually get it but even after herding it between blasts of spray so I could get a direct shot at it and absolutely nailing the blasted thing it was back the next day.  Yes, somewhat amusing how you get to know a fly by its flight behaviour.

SH1 from Auckland to Whangarei.

Multiple speed limit changes from 100-80-60-50-30-80-60-50-100-80-LSZ etc.

And the state of the road - Especially near Dome Valley. IT'S OUR MAIN HIGHWAY!!!

Honestly - it's embarrassing.
