Just because a carrier is listed as belgim post or whoever doesnt mean that it actually went there. They may just be paying that company but it still goes USPS etc.

There are a lot of NL post items from asia at the moment, they dont physically travel to europe before coming to NZ, its just the counter that they take the stuff to to pay for the shipping.

Don't know why people are getting charged so much for shipping shoes. I have brought 3 pairs now from DC.com and every time it has been $30NZ from Youshop size 13US. Are Amazon using a typical shoe box or an Amazon sized shoe box lol

You're right that that whoever's stamp/sticker is on the envelope doesn't tell you how it was routed. But AFAIK, in the shipito case, there was strong evidence it was actually sent to Europe (I believe Sweden was used before Belgian Post). This included communication from shipito staff, information in the tracking, the times taken and possibly also some of the shipping label information. (The fact that the package has a Belgium Post sticker doesn't tell you where it was sent from, but if it has a postal mark from a postal office somewhere in Belgium, that's fairly indicative. Also even if you don't trust the tracking info from shipito, if say it enters EMS or gets other local post tracking, it's harder to say this info isn't reliable if the information indicates it's originating from whatever European country.)

Also in the case of stuff sent from Asian countries particularly China, I don't think it's true that it necessarily goes through the local post company (China Post or whatever). My impression is that some of the companies do have their own processing facilities in Asian countries, particularly China and may even send it to NZ etc themselves. Or possibly they have no facilities, but instead simply have agreements with the consigment companies which many sellers use, and the consigment companies handle a lot of it themselves with the foreign postal company being the go between for the destination postal company. It obviously enters the same postal system at some stage, but this may not happen until the destination country.

Edit this is in reference to intra-Europe, and is with then they were still using Sweden post, but see these examples which were postmarked in Malmo http://www.shipito.com/forum/forum/16-shipping/17826-shipito-airmail-lost-stolen-package . Also looking there I remember now it wasn't just staff but at least in the past, the owner themselves had replied. One thought when doing the searching is I'm not sure how they handle/d customs issues for items being sent outside Europe. I guess they must have used a facility which was able to reship stuff without needing to collect tax if it was being re-exported.

Consolidation pricing

The cost of international postage for consolidated parcels is different to the international postage for an individual parcel. The international postage for consolidated parcels is NZD$25.00 per parcel plus $4.75 per 500g increment, and then $3.00 per parcel for each additional parcel if your consolidation contains more than 5 parcels. Up to a maximum of 10 parcels can be consolidated. The minimum chargeable weight is 500g and is charged in 500g increments thereafter. The chargeable weight of your parcel will be based on the greater of its actual weight or volumetric weight (charged in 500g increments).

Total weight of a consolidated parcel cannot exceed 30kgs. Also, an individual parcel within a consolidated parcel cannot have dimensions larger than 50cms.

Example: Shipping 4 parcels at 200g each vs consolidating as one parcel

Shipping x 4 individual parcels
(previously with Multi-parcel discount)

Shipping x 4 parcels with consolidation

Base Rate:

4 x $12.50

1 x $25

Minimum charge:

4 x $4.75

1 x $4.75

Each additional 500g increment:

1 x $4.75

Multi-parcel discount:
First parcel charged at the full international postage cost. Each subsequent parcel receives a NZD$6 discount. Only applicable in China.

(3 x -$6) = - $18.00

Multi-parcel discount is not available at our warehouses in Europe and USA.

Total cost for delivery:

$51.00

$34.50

Consolidation would save you: $16.50

International postage excludes any GST, duty and customs clearance costs that may be payable on arrival in New Zealand.

Doesn't seem to be unfortunately except for the Westpac stuff. While I think NZ Post do track this thread a bit, can't hurt to ask via Twitter or somewhere else they probably pay more attention too.

Also see they finally emailed about consolidation. Weirdly they didn't just say the multi-parcel discount only applies for China, instead just included a link to check the webpage which basically says the same thing.

Does the consolidation charges seem pretty high to anyone else? I sort of expected a flat fee of $4 or something per parcel.

Yes it does. I'm also wondering what it does to the volume if you have like one long thin thing like a poster tube and one cubic thing. May end up paying more on the volumetric weight if they just choose a box that both will go in.

I'm probably going to look at other services with this new consolidation pricing. The service is good, but realistically, pricing is just too high in my opinion.

If you do use shipito then be aware they are super strict with the name that things are sent to. Friend had issues when someone sent something to his handle at the shipito address. Got it sorted but it's not like youshop where anything with your nz number in it works.

Unsurprisingly I agree the consolidation pricing seems highly. And it's also not clear how well they're going to actual consolidate. I've taken the risk of ordering 3 more items, hoping that shipping for these will basically be free but there is a risk, particularly for one of them.

Also am I right they still don't have a way to easily specify you're waiting for more items? So you still have to contact them. I know I read somewhere they said they'd introduce it with consolidation, but they don't seem to have. They probably don't want items the 10th item arriving 200 days after the first, but a bit more than 21 days will probably happen on occassion.

Any sign they tried to repackage it? It seems something that's well exceeding their 2kg difference, and if the merchant could ship it for half the Youshop cost I would have thought it isn't something with extremely high volumetric that they can't get rid of. If there's no sign of repacking attempt, you could try asking via support why they didn't.
