The five seconds of the auto-play trailer that I was exposed to was enough for me to know I'd rather watch Married At First Sight* than that.

* replace with any programme you'd do anything to avoid

Really enjoying season 2 of Mindhunter, though.

Wu Assassins (Netflix). A bit of fantasy, martial arts, SFO Chinatown, all together. Interesting story, a bit weak, but ok to watch on the bus to/from work. 6.5/10

I enjoyed that. Better than Iron Fist - although that's a low bar.

Managed to make it to episode 5 before giving up on it.

Fight scenes are good but the story is crap, acting is crap, and music is .....crap.

Carnival Row on Amazon Prime.
Fantasy world with Fae, humans and other races living together in a gritty 1910s era. Local police defective (Orlando Bloom) trying to solve a mystery.
I'm enjoying the world building and character development of the first 2 episodes I've seen. Probably a little cliche in the roles but the acting is good as the the budget.

Some nice little plot twists to keep you going.

I can see why the critics gave it average reviews but I'm enjoying it and the audience reviews are much better.
I'd give it a solid 7/10 so far.

Finished a couple in the last few months.

OITNB - Netflix - S07
As it's the last series you knew it would be full of sentimentality as they tied up each character, but look beyond that and it still had some very good performances and some important social commentary. A couple of the past series have been week, but this was ok.

Mindhunter - Netflix - S02
Finished it last night and still working it out. Not as gripping as S01 and I thought some of the story lines where a little irrelevant. Initial feeling is it was trying to please too many people by spreading the stories out but for me that meant it lost the intensity of the first series.

The Handmaid's Tale - Lightbox - S03
Meh, over it. Lost interest in S02 but my wife loves it.

The Planets - BBC
Watching this with my 11 year old. We both think it's brilliant, my wife hates this sort of thing and our teenage boy couldn't care less. Proper BBC documentary with an expert telling it how it is, or was, in this case :)

The Americans - Lightbox - S01-S06
We both loved it. Had a couple of iffy moments, but overall it was great. After watching all six series pretty much one every night it feels a little odd to not have Philip and Elizabeth in our lives any more.

Stranger Things - Netflx - S03
I enjoyed S01, but gave up half way through S02. Our eldest was at home from varsity when it was released so we all sat down to watch it the night it was released. She watched the whole lot the next day and the rest of us haven't mentioned it once since. Not our thing.

After Life - Netflix - S01
So good we watched it again. Just brilliant.

Blackadder II - BBC
Haven't seen it in years and can pre-empt all the dialog, but it's still very good.

I have only seen the first episode. It looks interesting.

Sacha was good imo. A lot of comedians are just good actors too e.g Robin Williams, Eddie Izzard etc.. Being a comedian is probably the toughest acting role.

The directing was a little off imo.

Some reviewers said the story was slow, plodding.

I don't mind that. I like a slow building story (with character and plot).

Will watch the next episodes.

I think that's a reasonable comment about the apparent speed of the story near the beginning but I really think it suits the nature of story and the era it's set in. It did cross my mind that the directors were trying to emulate the style of a 1960's spy movie - and to that extent, it does work.

I found that as the story developed in the following few episodes, the pace was not an issue - as you say " ...slow building story with character and plot".

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

The I-land

Had so much promise and potential and the story written by someone with experience in pacing and cohesiveness could have made it SO awesome. It would have been like Lost 2019 but better and they wrecked it.

Was ok, watched to the end, but spent a lot of time frustrated at the issues with the plot and aforementioned things.

I really want something decent to sink my teeth into.

We've recently discovered (and are really enjoying) Travels with My Father on Netflix - the UK comedian Jack Whitehall and his father (in late 20s and late 70s respectively, the age gap being a common touch point in the series) travel various regions of the world together.

While clearly scripted to a degree (or, more accurately, highly staged), and with both of them no doubt playing exaggerated characters of themselves, it's both amusing and touching - especially watching changes in the father/son relationship as the series progresses.

Season one is set in Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam); season two in Europe; and the newly released season three in the US.

Nothing deep, but just good entertainment - we find it an ideal antidote after watching something heavy!

We enjoy 'Nordic Noir' like The Bridge. Most recently we have been watching an Icelandic Police series on SBS called Trapped. It is very good.

Seeing the reference to The Bridge above (which is excellent) reminded me the Guardian yesterday published a 'top 100 TV series of the 21st century' (well, less the first <20% of the century!) - while you don't have to agree with the relative placings (I mean having The Wire beaten to first place by The Sopranos - what were they thinking?!), it's still a useful source of potential recommendations if stuck for something to view.
