To be fair, I was objecting more to the intrusion by reporting it as if Mr Hosking sobbing was a matter of great public interest, which it ought not to be.

He’s perfectly entitled to sob. Indeed, I shed a tear myself. I just don’t think it’s something that deserves a headline in the Herald.

I get the impression you'll argue black is white. The problem is very much someone having coffee which is stopping them getting the job done in time. Having a coffee and getting the job done are mutually exclusive in this case.

I fail to see how it wasn't presented as focussing on work performance. If it didn't affect work performance there's really nothing to be annoyed about. I rather suspect some on here, you included, jumped to a conclusion based on your work environment and didn't stop to think there might be situations where starting off with a coffee isn’t appropriate.

You sound like a terrible person to work for. If the job is predicated on people arriving at an exact time and there is only exactly enough time for preparations before commencement then you have failed at planning. There are so many things that could go wrong (an injury, toilet break, mechanical failure of some sort) that you're setting yourself up to fail with no buffer. I can think of situations where stopping for a tea or coffee isn't appropriate (like, for example, one of the above Bad Things happened) but if the entire job is like that, it sounds like a crap job working for an awful business.

It's not about anyone working for me, it's about working with people who decide to "slack off". It's not a crap job, quite the opposite. It is a job where for fatigue reasons duty start and finish times are closely monitored. There's sufficient time allowed for the start of day tasks allowing for hiccups. I'm talking less than an hour here. It's not as if it's really arduous work or a long period of time before there's time for a short break.

If all goes well there is time for a coffee after everything for the day is prepared. To want to start with a coffee before the days preparation is completed and know there are no unforeseen hiccups that may delay proceedings is unprofessional and self centred IMO.

Changing the subject from the ongoing bunfight, the unstoppable northwards march of the dogboxes:

Same out west, and presumably down south as well, just the creeping death of endless dogboxes overrunning farms and forests.

Are they big enough for a dog?

They completely fill the section they're on so they're easily big enough, the problem is that since they're all identical and in streets that are all identical I have no idea how a dog would find the right one.

It's not going to get any better with the new planning rules that are being implemented. Up to three homes per property, three stories high and in some cases five or six stories coming to a place near you, if the recent letter from the local council is anything to go by.

The total inability of Marley to get any two pieces of their 80mm pipe fittings the same colour:

A bit hard to see in the photo due to the camera software trying to autocorrect the colour shades, but every one of those is different and none of them are white like the 80mm pipe itself (as indicated by the notebook). So trying to connect up some downpipe with those makes it look like it was assembled from random odds and ends you had lying around rather than fittings you've been ridiculously overcharged for.

Imagine walking your dog in an area like that where every house is the same as the next

ASB Ugly new Debit Card compared to the old ones.

It’s a plain flat yellow with name and details printed on the back. No silver embossed name and number like in most. It looks like a badly made fake. A 5 year old could have designed a better one.

Maybe that is exactly what is supposed to prevent it from being stolen? ;-)

Yes that is a lot better because they will not be using so much land and putting all those people on absurd sections that are just large enough to need to be maintained, but not large enough to do anything useful with. Cant concrete it all, council says no, because they dont want to have to have drainage. Cant put a pool in because its not large enough, Cant add on a workshop, because again, not big enough. But you gotta keep it as dirt and lawn and have to mow it.

If your dog could talk it would tell you they all smell different depending on who's peed on the fence.

My US cousin lived in a block where all walls and roofs were same colour with 3 colours of garage door. He used the door opener to ID his place.

We have a government building project in Rotorua where they are building 30 or so houses, all exactly the same in a small area . I just imagine someone coming home drunk one night and trying to find the right house. Good luck 😁
