Ouch!

I can see from street signs that some of the devastation is right in the centre - Tuam Street for instance.
Is all of Christchurch like this or are there just localised areas of major damage and the majority is still standing?

I can see online that the number of claims is climbing all the time.

Are there any estimates yet on the time to clear the rubble and rebuild/repair?

Some of the road damage would take our local Council six months or more to put right :-(

A fun game for those in the region (NOT).

When you hear a quake wait 15 minutes and then jump on the geonet website (http://www.geonet.org.nz/index.html). Go to the location of the quake and copy the cords of the quake e.g. 43.55°S, 172.50°E then goto google maps (you all know this one) and paste them in, lets see who can get the closest to the centre of a shock, my best so far is 200 meters .

North Island/anywhere is looking pretty good at the moment, just felt my first one for a good few hours

Yep. The interesting thing that the scientist on tvnz news at 8 said was that the more mag 5 aftershocks the more likely a mag 6 one is.

From the way it felt where I am (CBD) I think its 5.4. But looking at the MQZ drum on geonet it was probably 4.something

I'm in Avonside, felt very similar to the first of last night's 2 big aftershocks, will be interesting to see. Very subjective stuff at this time of night after a beer or 2
