Trademe's total brokenness during the repeateldy-spammed Labour Day weekend sale. Pages that consist of "Whoops, that shouldn't have happened", search boxes that just display a neverending spinner, pages that take minutes to render and then contain nothing but boilerplate with no content, and an auction I just won that, after sitting at "Closing" for around half an hour has now miraculously unclosed itself and will run for more than two hours beyond its closing time. Or something, things are so broken that it's hard to tell what's going on.

Edited to add: And there's no way to contact them about this because you just end up in a circle-jerk of canned responses, none of which address the problem that their web site is broken.

I would not let her in. All she has to do is say that you touched her, and you are stuffed!

Absolutely, definitely, this! She sounds quite unstable which means you could be in for endless pain if she decides to make up some story, or if you're really unlucky, several stories. And the problem is that no matter how obviously untrue they might be, they still have to be investigated for CYA purposes by everyone involved.

I'd be more worried about her coming back to burgle your house.

Yep, I was stupid, but I was a bit dazed from just waking up.

I work from home. Plus I've got Ring floodlight cameras that alert me when someone comes on my property.

I've excluded Ring from my "Do Not disturb" list, so I'll always get alerted.

I've downloaded the exterior cameras videos, because Ring would have deleted those after 30 days.

Those captured some of our conservation also. Also I have her boyfriends text number on my phone, which I have blocked.

Off subject. Expensive, but a security camera is always worth the cost. Sold throughout New Zealand hardware stores, and retailers.

I think you should talk to someone at police just in case the whole story backfires and she decides to come back at you. She sounds pretty cunning to me and you definitely shouldn’t open the door to her again plus it would be wise to have some prior history of this event with police.
How do you know if the boyfriend won't decide to come over because of something she makes up to tell him. I’d definitely be talking to police.

kingdragonfly: I'm posting this because I'm getting world-weary in my old age.

Actually, you put yourself out for a stranger. Nothing wrong with that. It just sounds like this particular person may not be bona fide which is not your fault.

There is an old saying that you can't fool me "I wasn't born yesterday." Obviously not true in every case.

Years ago Father Neb got into a situation with someone where he felt it prudent to notify the police. Turned out this person was well known to them from previous escapades and they were sympathetic to my dad's story. So definitely let the police know to get it on the record.

Ring Floodlight HD Camera | Install and Set Up

My neighbour set one of these up yesterday - stupidly easy, especially if you already have a light wired in. It probably took him less time than the length of the video.

I am curious about the difference with the one in the video and this one that has the lights built in. Anybody care to comment?

The Floodlight has two LED heads that can be pointed in different directions. The lights are a lot stronger than the Spotlight. Also the Spotlight runs on batteries (and optional solar panel to keep the batteries charged) while the Floodlight is on mains.

Because it runs on the mains you can keep all options (longer recording, more motion detection options, timed snapshots) on the Floodlight. If you turn those options on a Spotlight it will run the batteries down faster.

Ah, my bad. I meant to link to the wired version of the same. I guess the same caveats will apply - lights not as strong, lights can't be separately positioned. I'm considering getting the wireless one for one of mine, as it would be a major hassle getting power to it, but the solar panel solution would work well.

Amazon bought Ring, and I found the phone app has matured quite a bit in two years.

I understand people also like Eufy (also known as Anker). It is also available in New Zealand, Noel Leeming.

For people considering Ring, just be aware that you're enrolling yourself in the Amazon surveillance ecosystem when you install one of those. If you're concerned about privacy you may want to get something else.
