The main things I am wanting to get would cost way too much in the freight - things like drills, routers (powertool type) etc. I hope nzpost add some slower but cheaper options at some stage.

Purchased couple of items from beach audio and had it shipped to Youshop. Received email for payment on 6.85KG package as per volumetric weight. Total was NZ$79. Used promo code Kiwibank10 and got 15% off shipping. Total was $67 for a 6.85KG parcel. Now awaiting delivery into my hands.

Great service. Easy to use. Payment gateway and customs declaration area is simple to use as well.

Ive ordered my first purchase to youshop - an eyefi card off amazon. I am hoping that the frustration free packaging means smaller and lighter and that they dont want to forward on a box thats a better part of a cubic foot or something daft.

No, FFP is the Amazon feature where they ship the item in packaging that doesn't require tin snips or a PHD to open (e.g. no blister packs). It's not a Youshop feature. I'm not sure Youshop offers repackaging (I know Borderlinx DOES offer this service though).

No, according to the FFP FAQ what they do is get the manufacturer to use a different box right out of the factory. The main thing is that according to them, if it's certified frustration free packaging, they will NOT put it in another box, the actual product box is designed to ship without extra packing (e.g. Kindles).

Same experience for me today. The item was 0.4 kg and the freight Oregon > NZ, after the 'kiwibank10' discount, was NZ$14.66. Have already received one item and now have two more on the way. So, also happy so far.

FFP is for the INDIVIDUAL product. It means none of that hard plastic shell you need tools to open.

Packaging for shipping is a different story. Nothing to do with individual products.
