I made a thing based on stuff from inside my brain and it worked.  First time!

Because my PC is remote (3-4 metres away) from my desk, it was a hassle (first world problem) to have to switch it on.  So I decided to find something that would allow me to switch it on at my desk.  After looking online for a ready-made solution, and not really finding anything (and not wanting to wait 2 months from Aliexpress), I decided to build it myself.  $10 worth of components from Jaycar, 5 mins with a soldering iron, and I "prototyped" (check me out with my fancy skills!) my switch - a momentary switch mounted in a jiffy box, cabled to the power switch jumper on the motherboard.  I was so stoked when it worked first time - such skills are not my forte, and normally things don't work like they do in my head, so I was thrilled when my brain and reality aligned.

This reminded me of ITAPPMONROBOT... Google it if interested; Geekzone won't let me post a link as apparently the URL contains a bad word (sigh...)

Thank you for that.  Brought a smile to my face (and a tear when I read through to the end).  The cherry on top of my already pretty damn good sundae.

I think the best part of the story was when the server was eventually replaced but ITAPPMONROBOT was just moved and restarted in a neglected corner (tears).  I struggle to think of a more apt metaphor for so much that happens in corporate workplaces - people keeping things going without understanding why or bothering to find out the origin or reason for something.  So much of my job is getting to the bottom of those questions so we don't endlessly (and needlessly) repeat the past.

And that one reminds me of another story... more than two decades old, but still relevant!

It reminds me of a story too.

Thanks, I enjoyed being reminded of that story.

The "gamification" of Gamestop Corporation shares by "Wall Street Bets" Reddit users.

As I understand it, the original point of the exercise was to sabotage short-sellers of what looks to me like a worthless company (and probably is - doomed).

Reddit Wall Street Bets sub-reddit ( probably NSFW)

Finding my Bluetooth speaker after searching the house for it, when I got to the office...and found it in my bag!

So that's why my bag was so heavy!

The biggest loser from holding short positions - Melvin Capital - has needed a  US$2.7 billion bailout / cash injection.

I guess WSB users are also responsible for sabotage / vandalism of Melvin Capital's Wikipedia page.  The founder's name is Melvin Plotkin.

My mistake above - called him "Melvin" (not Gabriel) by mistake..

What a strange world - can't believe anything any more - not even "facts".
