Not specifically related to Stuff or the Herald, but sad to hear of the demise of The Listener (as well as quite a few other Bauer media titles):

I heard that they were wanting to exit the NZ market for some time, and this is probably perfect timing for them. I wonder why they chose not to continue (with the Government subsidy) and/or sell the outfit to someone else?

Why did they choose not to continue? In the short term: complete uncertainty as to when they could restart their business; and a very poor outlook for advertising income. In the longer term: 'magazines, yes I remember them ...'
Why did they not sell to someone else? No willing buyers a.t.m.? Easier for the liquidators to sell the bare titles without the encumbrance of current debt, property and staff
Why did they pull the pin now? "Never let a crisis go to waste" :-(
Having said all that... https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12322014

Thing is, it probably COULD spread germans across two supermarket aisles, they'd leave!
One I hate today is from our NZ Herald "'Patching Over' - Mongrel Mob leader's brother, nephew join Comancheros
Why are they making gang crap public? Why are they feeding their self-important status? Personally I think these organised crime rings should be completely illegal - not that it would stop them entirely, but why help them?
As you're probably aware, many councils are not currently offering recycling services. RNZ is calling this a 'recycling ban'. Sigh.
Want to donate to keep Stuffed Up operating?

No, but I think I'll send them a link to grammarly.com

You could view it as two distinct and independent statements.
