Last order from Book Depository landed here two weeks later than advised when we bought something - interestingly the postage was from Auckland...

I'd recommend 'Succession'. its on Neon in NZ , but season 2 is on Air New Zealand flights to/from Australia .

Its an HBO production.

Kind of similar to the Murdoch media family in storyline .

One patriarch and 4 children , 3 in the business and 1 aspiring to be a politician . And their partners.

I started on season 2 , episode 1 on the plane .

I'll plan a strategic subscription to Neon when I have time to devour both series

I've started Altered Carbon Season 2 on Netflix NZ.

Ep 1 so far so good.

Quite clever the way they can cast anyone any time they want as lead, due to re-sleeving...

I haven't watch it. It might be worth checking out.

Netflix

"I Am Not Okay With This"

Rotten Tomatoes:
At first glance, I Am Not Okay With This may not seem like the most natural adaption from comic books to Netflix series. Charles Forsman’s graphic novel is filled with dysfunctional people failing to relate to one another. It is written from perspective of one teenage girl, Sydney, who uses a journal — after it is forced upon her — to come to terms with various teenage problems and her emerging superpowers. And her voice, like many other teenage journalists, makes the world (and her place in it) feel irredeemable.

As star Sophia Lillis, who plays Sydney on the series, put it when Rotten Tomatoes talked to her about the show, the graphic novel has “this sort of ‘oppressive’ feeling.” That is to say, the character’s dark thoughts dominate the story and send it on a very specific trajectory.

The character’s fatalist tone is one of the book’s great strengths, but also a challenge when adapting the series. Executive producer Christy Hall felt she wanted to honor the “delicious melancholy” of the novel, but also felt it was important to build beyond the material.

The Virtual Production of The Mandalorian, Season One

ILMVFX

"A behind the scenes look at the groundbreaking virtual production technology used on The Mandalorian, Season One.

Over 50 percent of The Mandalorian Season 1 was filmed using this ground-breaking new methodology, eliminating the need for location shoots entirely.

Instead, actors in The Mandalorian performed in an immersive and massive 20’ high by 270-degree semicircular LED video wall and ceiling with a 75’-diameter performance space, where the practical set pieces were combined with digital extensions on the screens.

Digital 3D environments created by ILM played back interactively on the LED walls, edited in real-time during the shoot, which allowed for pixel-accurate tracking and perspective-correct 3D imagery rendered at high resolution via systems powered by NVIDIA GPUs."

I think someone may have mentioned Das Boot (TV series) earlier but can’t see it.

On TVNZOD. Excellent.

Sex Education S02 | Netflix | 7/10
Had the usual second series "need a storyline for every character" feel about it. Still enjoyed it but not as much as S01.

Giri/Haji | Netflix | 8/10
Wife and I really enjoyed this. We're not fans of 100 miles and hour storylines so often seen in US shows so something which is a little more drawn out is great. Gives you time to think and appreciate whats going on in the scene more.

I am not OK with this | Netflix | 6/10
It's ok. Not a patch on TEOTFW or Sex Education. A couple of the supporting cast carry it really. The episodes are so short you end up watching 2/3 just to try and get into it.

SAS Celebrity Who Dares Wins for SU2C | All4 | 7/10
Dont hate me ;)

After a slowish start we found it fascinating to see people who were the worlds best in their chosen profession (sport in particular) could be so mentally fragile and have so many doubts about their own achivements and abilities.

I remember a documentary with Victoria Pendalton in the lead up to London2012 where she talked about the weight of expectation and how the biggest days of her career had been her saddest. That one of the world's greatest track cyclists can't look back on her achievements with pride is saddening.

That is really mind blowing. It makes Green Screen look antiquated.

Next step full blown Hollodeck VR.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

My thoughts exactly.

Just watched Drive to Survive season 2 on Netflix, about the 2019 Formula 1 season.

Great stuff, and cool to get a behind the scenes look like that.

Feel sorry for the 'actors' as like any documentary/reality TV type show, the writers get to cast them into various story lines they want to tell.

You go on and have an interview, and then they take that content and craft it into an emotional story, at times out of context with what you had in mind/felt etc.
