Watched Hitchcock a couple of weeks back.

I very much enjoyed the movie and learned a great deal about the man and the myth, but felt that I was not so much watching Alfred Hitchcock, but Anthony Hopkins playing Hitchcock, which slightly ruined it for me.

I'm not sure what it was that I couldn't get my head around, but it was just....off a little (the portrayal, not the movie).

6.5/10

Bee: Limitless starring Bradley Cooper 8/10.

Yeah, I recently watched that, too. Probably a 7/10 for me (because films are so subjective, aren't they). But it definitely appealed to me because it was so different to the usual, and well filmed. :)

I re-watched this with my wife, after seeing it while flying to the States last year.  It was just as enjoyable on the second viewing, though Hopkins bizzare accent was distracting.

It's interesting to note how films can be different when you re-watch them.  When I first saw Limitless, I thought it was pretty average, but I happened upon it again a while back, halfway through the film, and it was surprisingly good when re-watching.  Makes me wonder how many other films are better the second time around.

And in contrast, I also re-watched Jack Reacher with my wife, and it wasn't as good as the first time around.  Funny that...

I've actually been re-watching more than I've been watching new.  I have an old laptop set up in the kitchen for company while cooking, and I've been rewatching old films and TV through that the last few months.  Currently re-watching Spy Game with Rob Redford and Brad Pitt.  It's one of my go-to films - a great spy flick with the uber-cool Redford as the master spy working his magic on retirement day to save his protege from being executed.  Great story, great photography, great characters/actors, great soundtrack - Tony Scott doing it right.

^^^

I haven't seen JackReacherTheMovie yet. I've now read three of the books and the thought of little 5'7" Tom Cruise playing 6'5" built like a barn Jack Reacher doesn't fill me with a lot of anticipation really.

Give it a chance, it was pretty decent honestly. I scoffed the loudest at the time it was announced was was fairly surprised.

I actually quite enjoyed Jack reacher, but did not suffer from a pre-conceived idea of what he should look like as had not read any of the books.

It was good fun but TC is not even close to JR's description.

Re-watched The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. I increase my previous score 1 point now = 7/10

I did enjoy it more the second time around. Took in more of the story and apreciated the costumes, art etc.

American Hustle 5/10
Could not get into this one. I thought the actors were great and the ending was good but I felt torn between thinking this feels like a comedy but should be drama. Cannot pin point it, just was not drawn into it. A couple even left the theatre which surprised me as it was not that bad.

Ender's Game. Overall pretty good. Fairly faithful to the book but lots missing obviously because of time constraints. Visually very nice. Could not believe how shockingly bad Ben Kingsley's accent was. Wow.

Cheers,
Joseph

I didn't watch Blood Diamond after hearing Leonardo Di Caprio's accent in the trailer. Yet District 9 managed to get local actors without too much a problem...

We know about his mother already, but the most likely in universe explanation for the accent is that Rackam's father was a South African of German origin who spent a lot of time in the Northern Territory. The other possibility, Kingsley's fee didn't cover an accent.

They could have had Tem Morrison AND Cliff Curtis for half Ben Kingsley's fee...

But they didn't need Bobba Fett or an Iraqi Terrorist...
