"will grow to capture 10 per cent of fresh white milk sales"

That sounds like marketing-induced wording, people take strong food cues from colour and form, for example "succulent Italian seafood filet" gets a much stronger reaction than "sea food filet", which in turn is much stronger than "fish finger", which is what it actually is. If some marketing guy managed to get "fresh white milk" into the story rather than just "milk" then they've earned their year-end bonus.

I’d have given him a bigger one for getting “fresh orange milk” in!

I guess there's a significant market for flavoured milk products.  Seems to be quite a bit of it on the shelf at supermarkets.  They probably don't call UHT treated / aseptic packaged milk "fresh", so I guess "fresh white milk" might be a reasonable description.

I think "fresh white milk sales" is a dairy industry technical term.
Probably inappropriate to use it in a general MSM news context, but if the person who wrote the original text for the article was a dairy industry insider, they would just use the phrase they always use. The problem comes from a 'journalist' failing to properly re-write the text, and the subeditor not noticing - if there was a subeditor.

It's accurate. Some people above found it annoying. Can you suggest a better term or phrase?

It's a hot-bed of crime in Dunedin https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/300062778/police-called-to-dampen-down-neighbour-hose-fight :

  • man squirts neighbour with hose
  • two men acting suspiciously
  • a burglary
  • couch set on fire
  • speeding and parking infringements

In the context, I think "milk sales" would have been an effective approximation for the MSM.
Yes, the dairy industry insiders would roll their eyes a bit and complain it had been dumbed down, but the average consumer probably doesn't consider flavoured milk, cream, yoghurt, UHT or custard as "milk". If you say "milk" to Joe/Jo Consumer, they think of the stuff in the plastic bottles that comes in dark blue, light blue, green and yellow varieties, i.e. what the industry cales "fresh white milk"
;-)

I think the word 'fresh' was certainly relevant, as opposed to milk solids or powder or whatever the correct terminology for other forms might be.

Three killed after plane hits Germany home. (Stuff 26 Jul)

How about,

Three killed when plane hits home in Germany,

or

Three killed after plane hits German home.

Really, it’s not that difficult, is it?

When you’re 18 you do dumb things like setting
couches on fire, when you’re 68 you do dumb things
like squirting your neighbour with a hose!

OneRoof, via NZ Herald... Biggest property turn-offs: 18 things that could derail a sale

Amongst the list of 18 things are, "Being too far from my family", "Nothing would turn me off a property", and a bonus 19th factor, "other".

Weeelll... that makes sense, they're reporting the results of a survey of 2K people, so all of those items are just what was reported on the survey, including "other" for uncategorisable replies.
