"Teacheing"?
"Accurate"?
"Reliable"?

This is exactly why I'm not giving a cent to Stuff 🙄

I see this everywhere now. Even in so-called 'quality' media. Sub-editors, proofreaders, and even editors have been discarded across the board as unnecessary expenses. Young 'journalists' lacking a real education and meaningful experience are now expected to report the news, and do the editorial tasks as well. This is the result.

There was an article in the Daily Telegraph - a paper that used to be known for accurate spelling and grammar - in which the HEADLINE used the word Intimated instead of Intimidated.

Amusingly the article was about the fact that the next batch of snowflakes, Gen Z, are "intimidated by the full stop". 🤯

My two pet hates are:

loose when the context should be lose,

and boarder when it's the border

Awesome, a pet hates tangent!

My latest pat hate is that clumsy americanism ''out of'. E.g. this is the new band out of Austin. I heard NZ TV presenters using it recently and it grates my ears.

Whatever happened to the word 'from' ?

A; it's shorter B: you avoid having to make a glottal stop after the 't' in 'out' so it's easier to say for us lazy talkers.

Next we'll all be using sidewalks. Sheesh.

Not if you can take the elevator.

My pet hate is snakes. I really hate pet snakes.

I have rewritten this for clarity:

After first landing upside-down with his undercarriage pointing skyward, T-6C Texan II later landed safely on his enormous belly, having consumed a meal of tacos and rice with his father, T-6C Texan Sr. A fat backside fault had caused him to miss the toilet seat.

And to haul it ever so slightly back towards topic;

When TV reporters are referred to as being ‘across’ a subject. It is jargon of the worst kind.

And reporters (and companies) "reaching out" for information. It sounds like they're making a huge effort, in a kindly caring way, when in reality it's an email or phone call.

Debases the language, like advertisers are now "partners".

And if you're actually in the industry they're "across", you realise that they are not actually across it at all.

Which makes you wonder about their reporting on everything else they're "across".

Edit: Typo

Not just TV. That one is an office thing.

Like induction for new staff - now "onboarding". 🤮

"Self-Isolate"

or as we used to call it "stay at home".

I'm happy with "self isolate". It carries a bit of extra inference that "stay at home" doesn't, which is "stay away from other people".

BTW Instead of boycotting Stuff until they improve, let's donate so they can afford a spell checker.
